Hi- FH and I are currently looking for a house in that area. I need to find information on the LIRR station there. Do you need a permit for parking permit? Are there spaces available? I currently live in Bellmore and I know it is sometimes full by the 7:51 am train.

Re: NWR: Anyone from Babylon/Lindenhurst?
Hey! Babylon I think has both metered spots and permit spots. There are a lot of spots for permits, but the spots with the meters are GONE by like 8 am. IMO, the permit spots are the better of the two options. I'm not too sure about Lindenhurst, but I think that lot is smaller. HTH!

Best bet is the Babylon train station. There is little to no parking at the Lindenhurst station, and from what I understand there is a wait list for a permit. You can park on the streets without a permit but usually fills up very early. I know people who have parked in the Waldbaums parking lot across the street, but they have signs saying they will tow if they find people parking there to take the train. (No one I know has ever been towed, but I don't want to tell you that it's always a safe bet). Babylon's lot is MUCH bigger and can accomodate many more cars.
GOOD LUCK!!!

Actually, there is plenty of parking in Lindenhurst. I tend to take a later train into the city when I have to go (like the 7:51 or the 8:18) and I never have a problem with parking. In fact, there are 2 lots that are only half full. You do need a parking permit but it's $35 for the year if you are a Village resident of Lindenhurst. It's only like $100 if you aren't. Babylon parking is way worse than Lindenhurst b/c they have so many people coming from the east going there, which is why I go to Lindenhurst. But if you don't have the permit, parking in Lindhenhurst is a PITA. HTH.

Thanks! This is all really helpful. I always want to grab someone getting on the Babylon train to find the inside scoop, but I don't want to look like the coo-coo commuter!

OK well I commute 2 days a week into the city for school...my dad has commuted for the last 25 years into the city and the last 15 from Babylon and has never gotten a parking permit....granted we live literally 5 blocks from the LIRR which helps cause we always walk or my mom will drive us in the morning haha
but I shoot for Lindenhurst parking wise. i know you need a permit but it is a hell of a lot cheaper than Babylon's parking lot permit...and the spots are always taken in Babylon in the non permit parking lot by like 8am especailly since you have alot of West babylon, North Babylon and West Islip people parking there as well...
i say if you live close enough to the train station in Babylon walk it - its worth saving the money

My father worked in the city for 35 years and we live in Lindenhurst. I have to say Lindy only because everytime I got to Babylon even when its not a peak time I can't find parking. I can always find a spot in Lindy but you may have to walk if you dont get their early. Also there are tons of nice houses walking distance to the train station along with Babylon. I have to say both have excellent towns and communities. I think either way depending when you go in the morn it effects your parking. Remember Babylon has express trains EVERY day whereas lindenhurst may have them just first 7-8am.

Re: NWR: Anyone from Babylon/Lindenhurst?
FYI- The metered spots at Babylon fill up even before 7! (I take the 6:42 train and there is NEVER a spot in the metered lot). If you get there super early and can find a spot in the metered lot, it's 25 cents for 2 hours.
There is a permit only part of the parking lot, but in order to get a permit, you have to be resident of Babylon Village (I'm in West Babylon, so I live in the TOWN of Babylon, but not the Village, so I'm out of luck in the permit dept.).
There are several privately owned lots around the train station that provide plenty of parking. They're $3 a day.. it's not that bad and they're really close to the station (like right across the street).
As far as the Lindy station... I have no info for ya...
Good luck!

I live in Babylon, and don't know about LIndenhurst. The Babylon station depends--there's pay parking that's a couple of bucks a day, there's closer parking that's privately run, and there is parking for Babylon residents, but I'm not sure how much it costs. Right now we're renting and we live close enough to walk, and before this apartment, when I lived alone, I also lived close enough to walk, just on the other side of the train station. We want to buy a house in the next year, and we're going to do our best to buy a house within reasonable walking distance of the Babylon station.
We love Babylon and have no desire to live anywhere else. When the weather's nice, you can walk through the village to the movies, to lots of nice restaurants, through the park, to the library...it's like a more old-fashioned village than most places on LI that are just suburban sprawl. When it's nice out, we love going out to dinner and walking home through Argyle Park. And we're both runners, and we love to run down to the water and up and down the docks. There are also several good gyms, we belong to the World Gym (Fitness Incentive was a bit trendy for us.)
Oh, wait. We don't want competition for buying a house in Babylon. Don't move there! It's awful! Full of crack houses and packs of vicious feral dogs. Don't even get off the train, keep going, as there's radioactive waste buried under the village, and lots of mutants that sometimes attack people.

In Lindy you need a permit to park in the lot or under the tracks. Its 35.00 for the year. However, there are a lot of side streets that you can park on that you dont need the permit for.

I would say spring for the permit. It's not that much money. I currently live right behind Montauk Hwy in a small, cute town and people are always parking on my street to attend town fairs, parades, restuarants. It's very annoying b/c we are a 4 car household and they are often parked in one of our spots. It's not fair to people who live in the neighborhood to take their spots for an entire workday.
