my dog has been having a lot of allergy problems lately, to the point where she was losing fur, had thinning fur, itching, biting etc... so we took her to the vet and she has been on antihistamine meds. The vet also did an allergy test.
today we got the piliminary allergy report back (so I am assuming we will be finding out more things she is allergic to when we get the rest back)
I am so upset.. she is basically allergic to everything. Here is a list of some ofthe things we were told she is allergic to so far...
all insects (esp fleas - the doctor said she can go into a anifilactic shock if one even walks on her) all trees all grasses chicken lamb beef pork peanuts rice sheep pollen dandelions and the strangest - i thought.. COTTON.. so basically me just wearing a cotton shirt is bad for her
she will have to stay on antihistamine meds and will have to be on a strict food diet
does anyone else have a dog that is allergic like this? I feel so bad for her and on top of that its prob going to cost a fortune to keep her on meds ($30 every 2 weeks) and special food.

i agree with the second opinion... i got 3 of them. I ended up going to a vet who specializes in dermatology
im not sure i need a second opinion. It def makes sense from her symptoms that she is def allergic to a lot of things. and the results came back as positive to having these allergies.
the last few days we started to give her her meds in peanut butter (not knowing she was allergic) and we saw she started itching a lot more again.

I agree with getting a second opinion. Also if the vet tries to make you buy super expensive prescription allergy food you should first take the list of known allergens to a pet food store (that carries premium brands) and see if you can find a cheaper food that doesnt have any of the bad ingredients. Wellness makes a great venison or duck allergy food. And Canine Caviar sells canned food that is strictly single protein and no other ingredients (like pure beaver or duck for example lol). Also make sure the dog is frontlined every month to cut down on the flea allergen and never leave him outside for longer than he needs to go make. You should look into getting an exterminator to spray the yard for fleas in the spring.
What food is the dog on now? And as for treats they make pure venison or duck jerky for dogs that would be safe if hes not allergic or maybe baby carrots. Ive worked in pet stores for years so FM me if you would like to know whats out there in terms of food.
