It varies from place to place. The trend right now is for LPNs to work in nursing homes although some hospitals hire them. I've heard of salary ranging from $18-26/hr. It's a big range.

My friend makes about $25 /hr about half of what an RN makes. It also depends on where you live.

Thanks I really appreciate it. I have been going to school for sooooo long trying to get everything done and now at 34yrs old I am at a total stale mate with college due to alot of bad academic advisment which I cant do anything about now. But that's a whole other story. My dad has always said I live under Murphys law.

Thank you! Can you tell me besides specializing what the difference is from an LPN and RN? I work with alot of girls going to school for RN and one minute I feel like they agree with me about getting my LPN and going back and then the next conversation I have with them they are telling me it's just a waste because they are being phased out(which Im aware of but I know it wont be within the next year or two and I do plan on going back for my RN).

If you want to check out how much LPN's make in certain city or state check out this website. It's very helpful. You can use it also to check out any other jobs.
click salary wizard then click healthcare nursing under 'select a job category.' Enter your zip code, then click Search. You then can click on Licensed Practical Nurse under 'Job Title Closest to Yours.' It should then give you the average salaries for your title.
HTH!

I put up a link in a previous post from salary.com HTH.
LPNs where I work complain that they make on a little bit more than an aide but have almost the same responsibility as an RN. There are specific tasks that LPNs can and cannot do outlined by NYS and further specified by hospital policies that can change from place to place. Basically NYS outlines what LPNs can do but hospitals may limit them further.

Re: NWR Anyone know what an LPN's salary ranges from?
You really dont know how I appreciate all the help. The LPN course would only take me 18 months to complete part time at night and then NCC states that after you get your LPN and have a year and a half experience you can apply for the RN program with advanced standing. DH spoke with a girl today who is an LPN and works for an agency and she said she went to school for 10months and makes no less then $20-25 per hour but you can make more. I have also spoken to people though who have told me 15-17 per hour and 10-12 per hour so this is why Im so confused. from $10-25 seems like a really big range.

You still have the non nursing course to take. That takes about a year. You'll have anatomy and physiology 1 and 2, microbiology, psych, sociology etc...

Re: NWR Anyone know what an LPN's salary ranges from?
Do you mean toward the RN? I've done it all. I have no other core classes to take. All I had left where the clinicals once accepeted into the program and I just cant get accepted into the program because I was told while going to academic advisement each semester to take these certain courses I didnt need and that the grades I had where fine. When in reality what was holding me back where grades I should've been raising from B's to A's and now I woudl basically have to redo all the schooling I've done. It will take me another two years to fix what they advised me on(to the point where they registered me for the wrong class this semester and now I have to withdraw and it's too late to get into the correct class and now I will fall beneath my credits needed to save my financial aid and keep my other class) Anyhow, this is where I am and the conclusion DH and I have come too. I just want to be as informed as possible.

We have very few LPNs on my unit but it mostly depends on the hospital protocols. LPNs are not allowed to push certain meds, do initial assesments, initial care plans, aren't allowed to be charge nurse, and hang bloods. Again it depends on the institutions because The LPNs on my unit are allowed and have hung blood. HTH!

Good luck! I'm in my second year nursing program at suffolk now. If I didn't get in last January I would have checked out eastern and western suffolk boces out to do the LPN programs there.

My friend became a LPN first then went back for her bachelors to becom an RN. IT worked out great for her because she was making enough money to support herself and going to school full-time. You can always go back to get your bachelors. Most hospitals will even help you pay for it. Do what's best for you!

Thanks! Actually it's Eastern Boces I think(the one in Northport)that Im going to in Sept. I have the entrance exam in May. The other in Central Islip was the one that wouldnt give me much info and told me to google on the internet. I called SCC first and they told me because I was a nassau resident that I didnt stand much chance of getting accepted into the program but me grades were definetly good enough it was a shame that I lived in Nassau Very frustrating since I live in Massapequa and the next town which is only a few blocks puts me in Suffolk. Oh well.
I do thank all of you though for the help. By the way how would I find out if a hospital has a nursing school? A friend of mine worked in Stonybrook as and LPN and they paid for her to go for her RN.
