NWR- Anyone own a condo?

NWR- Anyone own a condo?

FH and I decided it was a better idea for us to get into a condo, more affordable, and there is no lawn to mow, or snow to shovel.

Anyone care to share where to find a nice big condo? How do you ladies like the ones you are in? Is it just a glorified apartment?

Is it only a glorified appt??? Ummmm... I am not sure... This is the first place I have lived since I left my Parents home in which I lived all my life...

To me... its our Home and we love it.

Good Luck searching... If you have any questions you can always FM!

i called an upgrade from an apartment with benefits... feels a tad different even though its an apartment style place to live

we did the same thing since house prices were a joke... it will work out if you stay a few years then get your first dream home

We own a townhouse and we love it. It has 2 floors (no basement), 2 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms. We each have our own walk-in closet in our bedroom! It was a total score for us and a nice way to start our married life. We have snow removal, landscaping....it's really nice. It's in a small cul-de-sac in Hauppauge. We bought it right before the wedding; unfortunately now they go for over $400K, (which is good for us when we go to sell; not so great for people looking now, thuogh) but we got a good price b/c the owners were in a rush to sell.

We have a one bedroom condo, that is large (1200 square feet). Is it a glorified apt? We could definitely rent a larger apt for the same price, but this made much better financial sense for us. Ours has gone up in price $50,000 since we bought it a year ago. It has everything we need--an outdoor patio, our own washer/dryer, dishwasher, air conditioning...And for right now we wouldn't want to be doing the upkeep and cleaning of a large house.

We have a one bedroom coop which we bought over the summer. It's a very small apartment in eastern queens, but we own it and will have tax write offs. It's great not having to deal with a landlord. A condo is even better though. Plus, no shoveling, mowing the lawn, etc.

FH owns a co-op.
He closed on our 2nd date.
It has gone up 100K sine he bought it 2.5 years ago. It is 1 bedroom and huge. I love it and cant wait to move in after we are married. One issue...parking. It is hard to find spaces espically since we are on a busy road.

I want to get out of our apt. too and find a condo or co-op... don't know where to look though! We'd like to stay in Nassau or in western Suffolk. Anybody have any ideas on where to look?

We own a co-op and we love it. We can not afford a house in our ideal neighborhood (way too expensive), so instead we live in a 2-bedroom co-op in our ideal neighborhood. It's the next best thing.

I have a one bedroom coop - decent size (850 sq feet plus a terrace), 24 hour door person, 24 security with an attendant in a booth in each of the two building and even a person in a booth in the parking lot, gated buildings and parking (for a fee and it took 5 years to get my space). They shovel the snow before you wake up most times, theu clean the lobby and all public spaces and deliver newspapers, accept UPS/Fedex packages and such. We even get monthly coop bills delivered by hand each month.

Yeah, it is a glorified apt but with tax breaks

There is no way that I could rent the same sized space for the price in this area.
The price has gone up like 900% since I bought it in 1997.

I lived in a condo IN CT though- so I cant help too much, but I can tell you that it was WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!! The place was so nice, nothing to take care of, when there was a problem the maintenance people take care of it...there was a pool- no clean up-
one bad thing- like any apartment- are the rules... we had a quiet neightbors which was great, but we were moving in and we amde noise and they were angry- WHATEVER...we could not have pets...

I love my home now- but the condo was a great starter for us

I bought a co-op in Rego Park, Queens in May 2005. I live there by myself and FH will move in when we're married - we plan to only live there a couple of mths and then start looking for a house.

Besides meeting FH, buying my co-op was the best thing I did. It's a great feeling knowing that it's yours and it's much more affordable then a house.

I hope to make a profit off of it when I sell and that will be my down payment on a house.

Re: NWR- Anyone own a condo?

I want a place with 2 floors..or at least 2 bedrooms, just so if we decide to have kids, we wont have to move right away. I just wish it didnt have to be so hard!

Re: NWR- Anyone own a condo?

Before our wedding DH and I found a townhome we loved in Albertson. Not sure if they have any available now, I found it on the Daniel Gayle website. It had 2 floors, 2 bedrooms and 2.5 baths and 2 car garage.

It was listed at $450,000 and we thought it was just too much for 2 bedrooms and was worried we wouldnt get much more than that when we wanted to sell it. I think if you dont want to worry about maintaining your lawn and things like that, condos are a good buy, especially if the maintenance fees are low.

Good luck!

Re: NWR- Anyone own a condo?

We bought a condo over a year ago Smithtown for 375K It has 3 bedrooms 2 1/2 baths, living room, dining room, eat-in-kitchen and a garage. We absolutely love it and since we both work full time it is nice not to mow lawns, rake leaves, and shovel snow. They have gone up a lot in a year and I probably could sell it for about 440K. It is so much better than renting if you can afford it so at least you cna sell it in years to buy a house if you want to go that route. Where are you looking to buy? I know a lot about where they are all located.
