I'm sorry if this offends anyone who's got some sort of special affinity for the LIRR--but it SUCKS!!!
My train has been an average of 30 minutes late every day this week! It's freezing cold and about 2 cars short every day. There are no seats! The parking lots are not plowed, so people park all over the $#@* place!
At least I only have one more week of commuting HELL!!
Sorry, had to share

Re: NWR - Anyone ride the LIRR??
You must have been on my train this morning. I was on the 7:16 out of Deer Park. I waited forever and the train was damn near an hour late this morning getting into Penn. It's embarrassing quite honestly. I'm late to work every day. My boss must think I'm lying at this point.

I understand where you are coming from. I used to work in the city and for that reason alone I'm glad a found a job on long island where I can drive instead. Smile - you said you only have 1 more week left, just keep thinking of that it will help get ya through it!

Re: NWR - Anyone ride the LIRR??
I have been commuting for over 3 years and there are times I dont mind and others I am ready to hurt someone!
Anyway I have realized 2 thing about their service: 1: Any holiday, even holidays you and I are not off, ie Columbus Day, Veterans Day, the MTA headquarters are usually closed. Those days expect Major delays, they blame it on broken down trains but I think its lack of staff! 2: The day AFTER snow storms expect delays! This one I cant figure out but its true!
And I have a huge issue with them! YOu knwo how each month they put out the on tiem report? Well why on earth do they count a train on time if it is within 5 mintues 59 seconds of the expected time????!!!!??? I mean if I get to the platform 3 minutes after the published time and I on time for the train???? COME ON!!!

Re: NWR - Anyone ride the LIRR??
Yep, I've been commuting about 4 years now. I remember when the fares were a little cheaper. I am SO NOT happy about the recent hike. Especially when employers are not putting it back in your wallet!
Oh... LOL... don't even go there with the on time stuff. I was just laughing about that this morning... they'll be handing out those stupid surveys soon and everyone I know rips them so where do they get their information from when they report that their customers rate them an A in satisfaction etc. Ever see those???

Re: NWR - Anyone ride the LIRR??
So true!!! I mostly take the 7:19 out of Ronkonkoma, but I knew I wasn't going to make it this morning, so I figured no big deal, I'll take the 7:32. Well, the 7:32 is over 20 minutes late just getting to the platform!! And we're standing out there freezing our butts off!! By the time I found a parking space it was about 7:22, but do you think the 7:19 was late so that I could catch that one?--of course not!!
And don't get me started on those double deckers (sometimes I take the train to Port Jeff) whoever designed those is a complete a@*h%$#!! where the hell are you supposed to put your stuff, bags, etc? You couldn't fit a pancake in those overhead racks!!!
Okay, I think I'm done now! Thanks for listening!

How funny are you! I know, my napsack/back pack, whatever you call it, doesn't fit on the overhead racks. So people give you screw face when you put it in the seat next to you, but what the hell are you supposed to do with it.

Re: NWR - Anyone ride the LIRR??
I was on the 7:30 out of Brentwood (I think it the 7:19 out of Ronkonkoma) We were two cars short and made two extra stops and we were a half hour late getting into Penn. Monday we were an hour late and the other three days we were 15 minutes late. Today they blamed it on weather related equipment trouble (a broken rail in Floral Park)

Re: NWR - Anyone ride the LIRR??
I was on the 6:08 out of Ronkonkoma this morning and we pulled into Penn at 8:15!!!
Then I try and get through the turnsiles for the E train and the platform is so packed they arent letting anyone else in until a train comes, the train finally comes....everyone piles on...I decide wait for the next train. I get a seat on the next train that proceeds to take almost 25 mins to get from Penn to 5th ave!!
Its not just the LIRR...I think all of mass transit is on vacation!!
BTW...I left my house at 5:45 this morning and got to work at 8:45!! Not bad...a three hour commute!!

Re: NWR - Anyone ride the LIRR??
Everyday I ask myself the same question, 'What the hell am I doing sitting on this train every day fo the past 8 years!!!!????'
But I just keep doing it. I can probably make the same amount of money working on LI if you subtract the commuting costs and time!

Re: NWR - Anyone ride the LIRR??
It's the weather.
Metro noth as been short equipment for the last 3 weeks.
Usually it's bad for a few days when it gets really cold, but it's been consistently cold for so long, I think they can't get something fixed for something else breaks.
Last night was such a mess even the conductors were complaining. I feel bad when people yell at them it's not their fault.
By the way, Aug21-04 works for the LIRR. I hope all the problems aren't driving her too crazy!

Re: NWR - Anyone ride the LIRR??
Maybe we sould send a letter to LIRR reminding them that it is winter which means it will be cold and probably snow. We should also let them know that they should expect winter to come every year between December and February until the end of time.

I am also a LIRR commuter out of Ronkonkoma. I don't think I've been able to feel my toes since November! Did you ever notice that when you get on the train you think, 'oh, it's nice and warm in here...' then you realize that there's really no heat on. It's just warmer than outside! I'm sick of freezing to death!
I was also a victim of the 7:32 this morning. Or should I say 7:47?

Re: NWR - Anyone ride the LIRR??
I take it from Manhattan to Long Island but BEG for a ride when I can or even borrow a car and park it on the streets here so I can use it to go back again. I'd rather sit in my car for an hour and a half a day to do alternate side parking than deal with the LIRR

Re: NWR - Anyone ride the LIRR??
It is completely HORRIBLE. If we were allowed to pay them for the service they provide, they wouldn't be in business. It's a sin they get all this money from us, and the service doesn't get any better.
