Hi all..sorry that this might be long (and really boring) but I need some help. I have two cats that have always got along fine together (for two years). One is about a year older than the other but they never had problems. However, recently my older cat has been acting very weird.. he runs as fast as he can out the door when I open it and wont come back for hours (they are indoor cats). When I do see him ...i go to get him and he will hiss at me and try to bite me, but eventually i get him back in the house. This is weird behavior for him.. but it gets worse.
On Saturday at about 5 am I heard screaming and furniture falling over and was scared out of my mind. Me and the FH ran out to find my older cat seriously trying to kill the other cat.. like really attacking him.. not just playing. This has happened about 5 times since then and we have had to seperate them.
Any idea what I should do?? anyone else experience this? I dont know what to do..I am scared to keep them in the same room.

Re: NWR: Anyone with cats.. HELP (sorry its long)
Wow... that is crazy that this behavior came out of nowhere... Has the cat been outside before any of this started? Bc Im thinkin he may have contracted something for outside... Sry, I cant be of much help, but I think you should really call a vet and ask the what they think is going on/what they can do... Not sure where you live, but we just brought our kitten here and got him a free checkup!

I would keep them separated for the time being - you dont want the younger one to get hurt while you are not home. Are they both fixed? Is it possible that the older one is going into heat and is getting aggressive? I would call your vet and take the older one in for a checkup ASAP - i would be more worried that he/she contracted something that can be making him/her like this. GL

I have heard this happens if a cat is losing hearing or eyesight. The cat gets startled and then just reacts! I don't know if that is your situation but it could be a possibility.

That is really strange behavior. I would definitely contact the vet they might have to run some tests.

Yes, I definitely agree. They should screen for metabolic (kidney, liver etc) problems. Also could be neurologic. Did something change in the household recently? New place, new person, etc?

No Nothing at all!! except for the fact that he runs away now.. about once a week he manages to get past me when I walk in the door and he wont come back for a few hours. I am scared he picked something up outside.
I just got a free min. so im calling the vet now.

My cats are 'brothers' and one of them has done that to that other before! They also are indoor cats and one of them got out once for 3 weeks!!! Then we found him! :) When he came back he did things like that to the other one and we found out from the vet he has a hyper-thyroid- now he's on meds but it could have been from t hat. Good luck!
