NWR: Apartment Help!

NWR: Apartment Help!

HI everyone,

We are in search of an apartment in huntington. I have searched on all the usual sites that people recommend but have not seen much. We want a one-bedroom, in the 1200 price range, and it must allow our cat. ALso, FH is insistent on not paying a brokers fee (he's being cheap) so I've been trying to find something rented by a private owner.

This has been so stressful for me on top of all the wedding related stresses. If anyone knows of anything or has tips on where i can look I would greatly appreciate it.

I know everyone here is always super helpful. Thank so much!!!

I found all my apartments through craigslist.

FH and I just found an apartment also., on Craigslist. Is the $1200 with nothing included? You might think about raising your target budget if most or all of the utilities are included. We just found a great place in Dix Hills for $1400 a month, everything's included except electric. (and no brokers fee..we said we'd take it on the spot!)

The way I figure it is that if we found a place that was $1200 (also our target budget with nothing included) then, there was a good chance we'd have to add another $300+ a month to cover utilities/etc. Plus we also have a cat, we got lucky our new landlord doesn't charge extra for cats/small dogs.

The best advice I could give you is maybe look outside Huntington, since that area tends to be more expensive (FH and I grew up there). And keep looking, we got lucky once we started to open up our search area. And maybe ask your friends if they know of anything opening up.

Good luck!

When are you looking to move in?

FH and I are currently living in an apartment in Huntington (it is by Beverly and Jericho Turnpike). We are in the process of buying a house and our apartment is going to be opening up as of the middle of July or August 1st the latest.

It is a 2 bedroom apartment and the rent is $1410. That includes cable and electricity.

It is in the back of the house where the landlord lives (it is not a basement apartment). We have been there for about a year and a half and the only reason that we are leaving is because we bought the house. We LOVE LOVE LOVE the landlords and they have been great to us. They do have 5 kids (ranging from ages 4 to 15 or so) and 2 dogs so you have to be ok with some noise but they really are respectful and know that there are tenants.

FM me if you are interested in seeing the place. I can then talk to my landlord.

Honestly, I have been in many apartments and I love this one! The bedroom is HUGE and there are a lot of closets in the bedroom!

You might want to make a post on LIF on their Home board. I did that last week, when we were in a similar place and got a few helpful responses.

Also try Newsday online. That is how FH (who is also vehemently anti broker fee) and I found the place we are moving into in July. Private parties list places on there often.

Yeah it is a great price.. Honestly that is why we were able to save enough to do the wedding and buy a house at the same time!

And it is a really good sized apartment.

Honestly, I think you are going to be hard pressed to find something in that area without a broker's fee. We just got our apartment and had been looking in the exact same area. It seemed everything that was somewhat decent was being shown by a realtor.
