NWR: Avon walk for Breast Cancer

I have decided that I want to do the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer on October 4-5.

Its a 2 day walk, 39.3 miles (26.2 the first day, 13.1 the second)

You stay overnight in their 'wellness village' camp with all of the walkers, where they have speakers and entertainment.

Besides being a great reason to get in shape, I think its an amazing cause. Each volunteer has to raise $1,800, but I think that is do-able, considering breast cancer touches so many people. . . .

The reason for my post - would anyone be interested in organizing a team and doing it all together? I plan on doing it regardless, but 40 miles is a long walk to walk alone, and I think the more people that get involved, the better. Just throwing it out there

I thought long and hard about the money too, but I really think that between now and October it can be done.

You can have friends and family do like - a monthly payment - 25 bucks a month or something and you get the credit up front, when they promise the donation.

Maybe I just have a lot of faith in my family / friends / co-workers, but I am really confident about it.

Oh yay! I should try and ask my Company too. I ordered an info packet from the website, so think about it and if you are really intrested, let me know!

I have always wanted to do that walk - Add me to your list and keep me updated. It will all depend on what new job I get re: hours I work. Go for it !! It is a great cause. Don't forget ladies if you can not do the long walk there is a 5 mile that takes place at Jones Beach and Eisenhower.

I did it a few years ago and it was so awesome until it poured and the camp flooded and I only got to walk one day and we all got stranded there and they had to bring us to a school gymnasium and I think I almost died. I am so sad because I worked so hard to raise money and I had a t-shirt made for my aunt who is a 3x breast cancer survior.

But, even though you are raising money for a good cause ppl can be really s*cky about giving you money. I have a few tips.

1-Throw a party with a few ppl you are walking with where part of the proceeds go to raise money.

2-Put a jar in your office so ppl can throw change in there and it adds up after time.

3-PRACTICE AND WEAR GOOD SHOES! MOLESKIN IS KEY!
