Do you ever get this weird feeling, like you can't wait to have a kid, then later that day you feel the complete oppsite. You go from thinking 'awww.... I can't wait to be a mommy, too ugh why have kids, they only add more stress to your life.' Since I've been engaged its either hit or miss with me. Trust me I'm not having any rugrats any time soon. But I was wondering if anyone else gets this way at all?

Bottom line:
When you are ready you will know. If you are not sure, then you are NOT ready. Sometimes life throws you curves and surprises and you deal with them. But all too often, people get that little 'baby itch' and they have kids way before they are really equipped emotionally or financially. That is a recipe for disaster.

Re: NWR: baby moods
I go back and forth all the time.
When I hear about the cute things that babies do, then I think yes, when I hear how my friend didn't sleep all night because she was cleaning up throw up, then I think no.

I have to agree with Goldi. As an 'older' bride, many people were convinced we would have a baby this coming August (9 months after our wedding). I can't tell you how many comments we got at the wedding.
Bottom line - Yes, I know my body is getting older (another birthday upon me in 5 days!) but DH and I JUST got married. Married life is definately an adjustment and after the stressful year last year of planning a wedding, buying a house and moving all within an 8 month time frame. I would not give up this alone time with DH for anything! We need this time to learn how to be husband and wife. Having a baby now as much as I would love ot, just isn't the right choice at the moment.

I'm the oldest of four. And I have all brothers. I'm not looking forward to little boys. And I've met so many people who had kids right after marriage and I agree enjoy every moment of lifes milestones. We're engaged, we didn't hurry to get married. We are enjoy our engagement. We kept our engaagement a secret so we could still enjoy being treated as bf and gf. Now we are fiancees. When we are married I want to enjoy being man and wife. i'm in no hurry. But every now and then hormones kick in. I just wanted to know if I was alone in the babyflashes.

No doubts on our mind. We are both ready. At least, as much as we can. Trying right after the wedding day. We are both older and we are ready for the next step.

Yeah dont you just love when people find the need to tell you of the risks of being an 'older mom'? We had PLENTY of people wishing a honeymoon baby upon us. To which I should have said on the thank you notes:
'Thank you for your generous check and fertility treatment services. They will surely be gifts to last a lifetime!'
DH and I are more than aware of our time frames.

Leslie I got one better. A friend of mine had a tragic first marrage. Three miscarriages and an abusive husband. She leaves him, adopts three kids and later on meets a wonderful man. Shes catholic hes jewish. Well his mom wasn't happy when they annonouced their enagement. Then his mother told him her on their wedding day 'It was big of my son to marry you, you being barren and all!' Shes lucky shes not my FMIL I would dump her a nursing home and never see her again. Well guess what she has three healthy babies with her new husband!

Re: NWR: baby moods
oh my gosh! you sound jsut like me! except i'm married already i work with kids at a school, so i see the best and the worst- LOL theres some that are such brats that i'm like ' why would i want to do this to myself?!' but then, theres the other ones that make you think ' aww! i hope my kid turns out like that!' in fact, just the other day i told DH i can't go to wendys for lunch anymore! LOL there were a cuople moms in there with the sweetest little kids- one little boy was like 2 and when his mom gave him his food he looked at her with these big eyes and said ' thank you mommy!' soo cute! and then there were these little tiny red headed twin girls that were so sweet! i thought ' i can't wait to be a mom!' then, i got back to work and was like ' who am i kidding?? i can't do this to myself!' LOL so, yeah- i know just what you're saying. luckily (??) i can't have my own kids, so i don't have to worry about any 'surprises' and DH and i really have time to think it through beofre we adopt or go further with anythnig....

Sorry, but I am already a mom and couldn't help but look at a post that has the word 'baby' in it, lol! I have to disagree with this post. I was neither emotionally or financially ready for my children, however my life has been anything BUT a disaster!

Well - if I waited to own a house before having kids, I would never have them!!!
Having 2 future stepkids puts things in perspective in terms of the reality of what having kids is about, and I still want a baby - I know I'm ready - so we'll see what happens...
