NWR: Baby shower question?

NWR: Baby shower question?

My SIL is pregnant with another boy (2nd) and her mom last night asked me if it was 'the thing nowadays' to have another baby shower for the new baby. I am not sure. I said yes if she was having a girl, but she's having a boy and usuing everything she already has in terms of nursery items and stroller/car seat, etc...

So I suggested maybe we throw her in an informal luncheon where we could just give her new baby clothes and all those little extras, but nothing too big. Do you think that is appropriate? She's due in 5 weeks so I'd have to hurry because I offered to host it at my house.

What do you all think?

I think its not necessary. However, I would ask the people that you would be inviting b/c they are ones who would have to give gifts.

My sister has a 4 year old boy and is prego with her first girl. The 'in' thing now is to throw what's called a sprinkle (ie a toned down shower). We just sent out the invitations with this poem:
You're invited to
A Baby Sprinkle

When the first one arrives
There are showers of blessings
From furniture and toys
To clothes for each dressing

But what do you do for kid number two?
The toys are still good and the cribs like brand new
Well the diapers are gone and so are the wipes
And the onesies dont last past just one little tyke

So what do you have
To rejoice a new daughter?
Why a sprinkle of course
With small things we all got her

So join us to say
'You're special too!'
To this new little baby
We can't wait to see you!

I know from working at a baby store that more people nowadays do register for a second child. It works well as a personal shopping list and people tend to not know what to buy for someone who is having a second child. I don't think I would throw a huge baby shower like you do for the first child but a nice luncheon is a great idea.

i wouldnt call it a baby shower, but the baby 'sprinkle' idea is cute. i think if you call it a shower, people might think youre sil is just asking for gifts. thats just my opinion though

i looove the sprinkle poem!! soo cute! my sister was thinking about what to do for her son's first birthday... she didn't want to invite the whole gang again because they've been giving her lots of gifts lately. her wedding shower, wedding, and 2 years later a baby shower. you have to think about people giving and giving and giving....

i like the idea of an informal luncheon. that way she'll get some much needed things, but it won't be over the top! congrats on becoming an aunt again!

My cousin's 2nd baby shower was a theme. She did Disney....she asked for books/movies. This way it was for the baby and her older son. It was adorable and people LOVED it!

I think that if you want to throw a shower you should. It is a nice gesture. It does not have to be anything huge. We just threw a second baby shower for one of our best friends and it was fantastic. We had it in one of the girl's backyards and we each made some food. There were just a lot of cute little touches (like floating rubber duckies in the pool, a box to vote on the name, etc) and it was a great time.

Re: NWR: Baby shower question?

thanks ladies!!! i was surprised that her mom wasn't throwing her ANOTHER shower....they're just like that, ya know? any opportunity for SIL to be in the spotlight

We may not do it, but i am gonna mention it even if it's just very casual and she gets basics...it would be a nice gesture on my part...

I would have the smaller luncheon with no registry so guest can bring a gift if they choose, just make sure they know its a boy
