I was buying some frames to make my photo cube at Michaels today and a woman was so busy on her cell phone at the check-out counter that she didnt notice her son (about 4 years old TOPS) had wandered away from her. I saw him wander away with the cart and knew he was inside the building only feet away. She ran around screaming for him at the top of her lungs. I couldn't tell if she was frightened or pi$$ed off that he inconvenienced her. Maybe it was a combo of both. Once she found him, she screamed her head off and may have whacked him in the tuchas. The kid was crying hysterical, probably more so because she was screaming at him. When would she have assumed responsibility for what had transpired? It was certainly not the child's fault - he was just a little boy. And here I am thinking towards the mother, 'maybe if you got your a$$ off the cell phone and paid attention to your kid, you wouldn't have these problems.' It was all I could do to keep my mouth closed and put my 'mandated reporter' hat away. Even though I am not in the classroom, I am still required by the state to report abuse or neglect. This was neglect. If you cannot manage a wicker basket, a cell phone and a 4 year old at the same time, then leave the kid home. Just a statement. I am done.

I'm with you sister! I can't tell you how many times I wanted to scream at these moms who let their kids run rampant in the store! I worked in retail, and I had to clean up the mess they allowed their children to make while they ignored them! How do you ignore your child? That's just asking for the child to be taken while you're not paying attention. I just wanted to yell: IF YOU'RE NOT INTERESTED IN YOUR KIDS WELL-BEING, WHY DID YOU HAVE THEM?

This is a very sensitive topic...especially when you're taking the train-you know what I mean. All I have to say that we live in a world where a lot of these women don't seem like they're fit to be mothers...even better-don't act like they love their kids...I could go on and on...but I know how you feel Leslie...its VERY frustrating that you can't just go up to the woman, knock on her head and tell her 'Hello!? Anybody home?!'...
