I would put them on after baking. The cookies will be soft enough!

If you put the eyes on after bakeing they will fall out bc they are not baked into the cookie.

Why don't you take one cookie and put the eyes on before baking. Bake that one and see how it comes out!
Good Luck! Sounds yummy!

Re: NWR-Baking cookies question

M&Ms won't melt, exactly, but the colors on the candy shells will bleed a bit. And if you put the M&Ms in when the cookies are still dough, remember how much cookies expand when they bake? They'll expand OVER the M&Ms, and they won't look like eyes anymore.

When the cookies come out of the oven, they are not done cooking yet - they're still so hot that they'll cook on their own for a few minutes. So I think if you put the M&Ms in then, the cookies will be soft enough that the candies will bake right in. If not, try putting them in 3 or 4 minutes before you're ready to take the cookies out. HTH!

You can put them on before. they aren't going to melt. The chocolate may melt, but the candy shell won't melt. I promise! I've made many many cookies.

You definitely need to put the sprinkles on before you start cooking them or they won't stick. Sprinkles also don't melt when you bake them (and neither do M&Ms).

The candy shell of the M&M won't melt either, and I've never had a cookie bake over the M&Ms... The color may bleed a bit, but that doesn't always happen. You can do a couple as a test run, but you should have no problem putting them M&Ms on before you bake.

(Have you ever made M&M cookies? They're like chocolate chip cookies with mini M&Ms instead of chocolate chips... They don't melt and they usually don't even bleed - You'll be fine to put the M&Ms on before they go into the oven)

Wanted to add - don't push the M&Ms too deep into the cookie. That's when the dough can sort of puff up around them...

yup, she's right. they'll be fine if you just push it into the dough and stick them into the oven, no melting, no dough puffing up, or anything. if you really want to put them on after they're done cooking, 'glue' them on with icing so they'll stick.
