NWR: BC related: Ummmmm I need some help... kind of important I guess...
ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Ok, I don't like to panic BUT I saw a commercial from one of those Lawyers with the catchy songs that my BC is causing mucho problems.. While I know that all BC can cause these probs (yes, all bc can cause 'side effects') the BC they listed specifically is the one I take...
I've been sort of complaining about numbness in my legs and toes lately but I summed it up to running and excerise, and low potassium levals... It never dawned on me that this is a serious prob... Told my mom and she's like when was the last time you had a EkG or something and I'm like: 'I'm healthy, nothing is wrong with me GOD!!'
Well FH is sitting with me and sees this and than FH VOMITS and is like call the Gyno, go on something else, and call another doctor and get a test to see if you have blood clots; ohmigod Sandra your dying:
So to shut him up b/c I don't think I'm dying, I need some help: 1) What sort of tests are involved for Blood clots? I mean is it like a full physical or something? Or do I need to get poked with needles b/c thats not happening 2) Should I go to doctor? I mean yea the numbness is annoying but its not life altering you know? 3) Why now is all this stuff coming out bout the pill? I mean, yea I knew all along the side affects do occur but like is it truly terrible? 4) I'm coming off the pill the month after the wedding... should I just stop taking it now?
Can someone help my little anxiety??? neone?

nothing is probably wrong, but it will probably put everyone's minds at ease if you at least consult a doctor.

dont go by an atty's commercial.....they are just trying to get business. The issues with BC have been out there since almost day one. If you read the side effects you will probably read all of what you saw on the commercial.
If it will make you feel better call your GYN but switching to a different pill will not automatically make clear of side effects.....blood clots is a side effect of all of them and is worse if you smoke and are over 30 (i think).

ITA...I would probably go to the doctor. I had numbness in my legs a few months ago and they ran every test in the book. Even though there was nothing seriously wrong with me, I was told that numbness (aka neuropathy) should never be ignored
Just see a doc and put all minds at ease

I would call your doctor and tell them your concerns and what has been going. And also if you want, call your regular and see what kind of test can be done

Every single BCP you will take will put you at an increased risk of blood clots.
I just had a 'blood clot scare' and this is what my MD told me:
Generally blood clots will occur when your legs are immobile for long periods of time (flying, bed ridden, etc.) and BCP puts you at higher risk. Most common blood clot will be in your calf. It will most likely be painful, swollen, hot and red. To test for blood clot, they would do a CT scan or an ultrasound of the affected area.
I am in NO WAY a clinician. This is what my MD told me. It turned out I did not have a clot but I was worried since I am an ex-smoker and had just been on a ton of flights for my HM.
Call your MD and he/she will put you at ease, but hopefully this is enough to at least calm you down for right now.

I would go to the doctor and explain what you are feeling. It's possible it has absolutely nothing to do with the BC pills.

Yes go to a doctor! If it is Yaz the things they are saying Yaz, Yasmin, and Ocella can cause are
(something) Thrombosis (blood clots in legs) they would do a sonogram to check for these
Stroke (you would know if you had a stroke)
Blood clots in the lungs (usually a catscan) can test for these.
Heart Conditions.. an EKG, or even a catscan of the chest.
I would get checked out ESPECIALLY since you are saying you are having numbness in your legs and toes. It could be nothing but better safe than sorry.
I was on it too. I stopped and recently went on loestrin 24 Fe... so far I feel fine on it.

You should never stop your BCP without consulting with your MD.

I would come off the pill if its freaking you out. There's other ways of preventing pregnancy. Defenitely talk to your doctor. Good luck.

Not to scare you but a blood clot in your leg can travel up and settle in your heart or lungs. Which is obviously WAY MORE SERIOUS than in your leg. Trust me, FH had to have weekely sonograms of his legs when he was recovering from his accident bc of an increased risk he had due to his immobility for so long.
Eventually they actually put a filter in his veins to prevent this. That was of course because he was injured for a very long time and would OBVIOUSLY not be the case for you. Just to sum things up about him though.

I was on Yasmin for about 7 years. Because of the risks associated with the specific hormones in Yasmin, my GP sent me for an ultrasound and chest X-Ray a while back to make sure I didn't have any clots.
Def call your doctor. I'm sure you're fine, but best to check with a professional.

i would def get it checked out... i have had many a doctor look at me like i have three heads because of some pain or concern I had and was freaking out about, but I always felt better that i did. Generally speaking, unless you are immobile for long periods of time (ie on a plane or bike, actually), are seriously dehydrated and/or if you SMOKE + take BCPs than you might have something to worry about... but otherwise, than its probably not a blood clot. They usually present more with calf pain/swelling than numbness. Still, if you go, it'll put your mind at ease. GL!

The way you get tested for blood clots is an ultrasound on your legs or wherever. Since I went on birth control like 10 years ago, I have constant swelling in my one leg, so I get checked all the time for clots to just make sure. If you had a clot, if would cause discoloration. Still, I would just go to the doctor to just voice your concerns and give you piece of mind.

Re: NWR: BC related: Ummmmm I need some help... kind of important I guess...
This JUST happpened to me a couple of weeks ago. It went off the pill which is risky for other factors but I am willing to take my chances after being scared like that. I started having bad chest pains about 2 months ago which I thought was anxiety due to my grandpa passing away but it was getting worse. Then they thought it was muscle related from the gym. Anyway, they eventually told me I was at high rish for a pulmonary embolism which is a blood clot because I was on the pill BUT, also because a couple of months ago, they changed my BC from othro try low to regular ortho try. So here are the tests I went for to rule out the pulmonary embolism.
My regualr doc sent me to a pulmonary doctor. At the office they gave me a couple of different breathing tests to rule out some other things. Then, they hooked me up to a heart monitor and IV and sent me for 2 different cat scans and a chest xray. They basically inject dye into your IV and perform the cat scan so that any blood clots will be seen with the dye. All of this was pretty pain free but nerve racking and the dye was very weird which if you want more info FM me.
My advice and my pulmonary doc said the same thing, for anything like this, it's best to go to the ER. They will perform all the necessary tests there once you tell them you're on the pill and the side effects. I went to so many doctors and then eventually to the ER where they did everything right there. it was very scary though so I understand what you are going through. Definitely have it looked at asap and let me know how it goes!
