NWR: BEst areas to live in LI

I am from Queens and plan on looking for a home soon. What are he best areas to look at in LI. Family oriented, good schools, safe.

Any insight would be great!

it really depends on your price range. are you looking to buy a house, apt, condo? how far east are you willing to go?

No more than 500k and I dont want to go as far out as riverhead.

i live in Babylon Villiage and happen to LOVE it.... walking distance to LIRR... everyone in the village knows eachother..... good restaurants... decent school district close too all major highways and parkways....

I live in Huntington now in the Elwood School District.

FH and I just bought a house in South Huntington in the South Huntington district, which is not as good as Elwood, but not a bad area.

If you're looking in Western Suffolk, I recommend, East Northport (Elwood Schools or Harborfields Schools), South Huntington (South Huntington Schools), Melville (Half Hallow Hills Schools), Commack (Commack Schools).

If you're looking in Nassau, I grew up in Williston Park which is part of the Herricks School district and is great. Neighborhood has changed a lot over the years - went from a predominantly Jewish neighborhood to more of a melting pot - about 70% of the population is now some form of Asian (mostly Korean, Chinese, Indian) and 30% is white (of some denomination). Personally, I liked growing up this area because it was very consistent with the 'real world' and not a neighborhood totally inhabited by one race/culture. When I was there, it was about 50% minority and 50% white.

Other areas in Nassau that are good are Manhasset, Oyster Bay, and Garden City, but might all be above your price range.

Just wanted to add, if you have to get to the city, the train ride from Huntington is an hour each way to Penn

I have to say Commack and East Northport in Suffolk county. The school districts are excellent and you get much more land there for your money than in Nassau.

I grew up in Mineola - School district is alright - I'd say make sure you're in the East Willston School District - Area is nice....

Currently, I'm living on the South Shore of Nassau County in Merrick. School district is really good.

I'm a school teacher, so living in a place where the schools are rated high is a priority.

I grew up in Elmont which used to be a nice area, but now, not so much.

My mom lives on the border of West Hempstead & Franklin Square - my litte brother is in Franklin Square schools and loves it!

My dad has lived in Floral Park his whole life and he loves it there. FH's cousin and a bunch of our friends live in FP too, they all like the area!

We just moved to Rockville Centre and we love the town! It's close to everything and the people are really friendly. The school district is good too!

Babylon/ West Babylon. I have lived in both but always went to west babylon school they were always winning state awards and grants

RVC is awesome. The schools are good, the people are friendly, and there are lots of different restaurants. Love it! I don't know of many houses for under 500k, but they have nice 2 and 3-bedroom co-ops for less than that!

With that budget you could get a house in a lot of nice towns on the south shore like Massapequa, Bellmore, seaford and Wantagh. All have good schools and wasy commutes on the Babylon line.

Massapque is part of the Town of Oyster Bay so it has its own private beach on ocean parkway!
