I started donating to Best Friends after Hurricane Katrina left thousands of animals stranded and abandoned. They're a wonderful organization, and most of their efforts are now focused on saving animals that were left without homes due to the Israel/ Labanon war. I definitely will. I would love to adopt a stray animal. I really don't understand how people can leave thier pets behind. When I had to put Jiffy to sleep a part of me went with her and I miss her and think of her every day. I will also foward the address to my friends.

Thanks so much! I volunteer for a shelter and it breaks my heart when someone brings in an animal that was just left behind in an apt. building because the owner moved out. It's so cruel and inhumane. I have two cats and I treat them better than I treat myself. Jiffy will thank you for the donation :)

i actually donate to them already and have for a while, i pretty much only donate to animal charities, but thanks for posting the info hopefully other people will be inspired

Oh it just breaks my heart when people leave behind their animals. I'm a kitty lover and I adopted mine recently and she's age 9. Makes me smile that I was able to give her a nice home being an older cat. I have no idea why she was given up, but I'm sure lucky to have her in my life. FH is allergic, but that's a whole other story. He loves her anyway!! I'll be donating, thanks for posting.

yay! it makes me so happy to see that people are interested in donating. i really think they're an awesome charity. and after you donate, you'll receive news letters once a month about what the organization is working on and they also post little stories about happy endings for animals!

I can't understand how these people were able to leave their animals behind. I have 3 cats (2 are I rescued from the town shelter) and would NEVER be able to leave them. They are my children... If this were to happen, they would have to leave me behind with my animals! It may sound crazy but I am an animal lover and like I said, these are my children!!

I am with you 100%. I hope to never be in the position that the Hurricane Katrina victims were in, but I honestly think that if G-d forbid I had to choose to leave or to stay behind, I'd risk my own life to make sure I was with my boys. I know many people would consider that crazy, but I'd never be able to live with myself knowing that I left them behind to die.
