NWR: best homemade cure for bugbites?

Original post by bluegreen08

I went to an outdoor event Thurs night and wore a dress and strappy wedges. I knew the bugs were biting, but yesterday I counted 19 bug bites (most from the knee down, but on my arms and back too).

I had a really mild case of the chicken pox (just one on my shoulder) so i'm not used to dealing with these and i want to scratch so badly!!!

what can I do? should I put ice on them? calamine lotion? I'm dyinggggggg

ugh I have one right now that blew up, it started a tiny bug bite and is now the size of a half dollar! FH was so scared by it he ran out and got me benadryl (in cream form) so i used that but for itchiness the absolute best thing I ever used was the aveeno anti itch cream! It's a god sent

Is it really? I almost got it once, but I think when I compared it to the Benadryl there was something not in the Aveno and the Benadryl was stronger or somethink like that. I have to try the Aveno next time. If I feel like I have an itch, I try to remember not to scratch and wash it right away. It has seemed to help not get such a huge welt. If I get like that, I take the Benadryl tablet now...that has seemed to clear it up the fastest.

Well the benadryl is best for swelling, I used it because I was allergic to this bite but the aveeno is the best for itching, you can mesh them together and apply them that way

Hopefully, I won't need to, but I'll have to try that if I do. Thanks.

i ended up going to the store this AM and i bought the benadryl in a tube. it helped at first but it's still not great.... and they are VERY visible

at least they bugs preferred my feet and legs, so if it happens again it wont be visible in my dress (only one bite on my arms)

thanks for the suggestions, ladies

It only lasts for so long...you have to keep putting it on. I tend to get bit a lot on my legs and feet too.

a quick solution my FMIL uses, is her own saliva... it's gross but it works! lick your finger and put it on the itchy ones
