NWR Best school districts to work for

Anyone have any opinion on this? What school districts are best to the teachers or pay better or better benefits? I thought this would be interesting.

Re: NWR Best school districts to work for

I worked in two districts and hated them both. I hated teaching in general, so maybe thats not fair. I'm not going to name them here, though.

Re: NWR Best school districts to work for

My mother worked in Brentwood for many years. Plus I have two friends that just started working there too. They all really seem to like it. I know that my mother did since she spent the majority of her career teaching there and then in administration.

Re: NWR Best school districts to work for

I've heard that Babylon is pretty good, and that West Islip for a fairly wealthy community is the 3rd worst paying district, and it's tough to get them to invest in the schools. People I know that work in Syosset like it and are paid $$$$, but you have to deal with overly involved parents. I think that's the case with most wealthy districts.

Re: NWR Best school districts to work for

My mom taught in Brentwood and didn't love it, but many of her friends DID like it there.

My grandmother AND mother both taught at Port Jeff and loved it. It was so small by the time my mom retired it was like a private school.

Re: NWR Best school districts to work for

I heard West Babylon, Garden City, and Syosset are excellent school districts to work for. To be honest with you, you are very lucky if you get a job on LI in any school district. It is so tough now!

Re: NWR Best school districts to work for

any district that will give you a job!

you can't be picky if you want to work in LI public schools! you need to apply to every single district and hope for the best.

btw...in 6 years i've worked in 3 districts and all are different.

Re: NWR Best school districts to work for

In all honesty, if you are lucky to get a job in LI... TAKE IT!!!!! there really isn't too much difference in pay, etc. across LI. granted, they are not all the same, but there is a general 'average' and most people are happy working in any district on LI. what makes a godo district is happy families and teachers and adminstrators. you will always find people that arent' happy whereever you go... what makes you 'happpy' may not be what works for someone else. you can't be picky with districts on LI, you either take it or you don't. I am VERY happy where I am, and we have a VERY small turnover rate, so I would say most teachers are happy here... I won't post where on here though.

GOOD LUCK!

Re: NWR Best school districts to work for

I'm still in school now and my major is english (secondary). Do you guys think that it is easier to get a job in a secondary position rather than elementary? Everyone tells me there is no shot of me getting a job right out of college...but I thought secondary wasn't that tough.

I think it depends on what you teach. It's really tough to find a position teaching English, but districts are begging people to teach science and math.

Re: NWR Best school districts to work for

Secondary is DEFINTIELY much easier to get a job in....

However, English, Social Studies are a bit more difficult t find vacancies. Math, Science and special ed. are the hot spots on the secondary level. however, that doesn't mean you won't get a job in English... i know someone who was just hired at Kellenberg right out of school....
