NWR: birth control

NWR: birth control

i have been on the patch for 5 years now. i suffer from really bad migraine headaches since i was a kid & i have noticed recently that i am getting them more & more on my patch free week. (thats when you get your period)

so i am thinking about changing birth controls. if anyone can offer me information about what they are on & the positive & negatives that would be really helpful.

TIA

I'm on Femcon FE. I believe it's a low dose pill and I have no negative effects. The past few months my period has been pretty light so that's a benefit. If I take it on an empty stomach, which is most of the time I do get really nauseous but no other side effects. I was also on Ortho-Tri Cyclen low a few years ago and it made me go looney so I got off of it.

I am on yaz....i used to be on yasmine but after a few years i needed a switch...so its been like a year and a half since on yaz and i have nothing bad to say about it! and like you i am a migraine sufferer....its 24 days of horomone pills and 4 days of the white pills ...and over time my pms and actual period have not been bad at all!! of course my stess levels can alter that but that is the case with all of us!

I am on Ocella which is the generic for Yasmin and I'm pretty happy with it. My periods are light and i get some tenderness and swelling in my chest, but other than that, i'm pretty comfortable when it comes to that time of the month.

I was on Mircette for a few months and I hated it. If i missed one or two pills, I'd get my period! On the Ocella, I can miss three pills (I know, i'm so bad) and I'm still ok. The Mircette also made me really moody and my sex drive was lacking. It's a little better now, but I'm left wondering if the pill is linked with a low sex drive... Another question for another day.

loestrin 24... its a low dosage pill and i like it BUT here is the thing- which could be good or bad on the way you look at it- your AF may be very light or stop all together.

Well all I can tell u is I'm on a generic brand right now and its terrible. I have been on this one almost a year and one month I'll barely get my period and the next month I'll get it full on for 5 days with the worst cramps. It so irregular. The only reason I take it is because its 10 bucks a month vs. 50 bucks a month...

I also have suffered from migraines since i have been a kid...

and i too get even worse migraines during the week that i dont take any birth control

I am currently on yaz..its probably the 9th birth control i have been on...nothing seems to work right..

anyway, within the last 2 months, my neurologist helped me find something to control my migraines...its called topomax...i take it everynight before i go to bed.. my migraines have went from once a week to like once a month, and the dose can be increased next time i go back so they become even less frequent...also, they gave me treximet for when i do get a migraine, and they are the only thing i have found so far that will actually take my migraines away; although, they knock me out for about 5 hours...definitely worth it though

when i was on birth control i took ortho-tri cyclen lo. I took it for 4 years and never had a problem with it. I used it because i had very irregular cycles and horrible cramping and it was amazing..literally 3 days long and very light with no cramping. It came like clockwork as well. I went off of it b/c i was ready for my body to start working on its own lol

OMG I thought I was the only person on Femcon!!! I love it! No bad side effects! I take it at night, so I cant comment on the empty stomach part. No major bloating, no cramping, no crazy-ness. They are kind of minty tasting and if you take the sugar pills they have a lot of iron in them and taste like metal (so I skip them).

I am on Yaz and I have no problems at all. No weight gain (thank god) I get my period for 4 day the max 5. Have no complaints. I' ve been on it for a while already. I used to be on loestrin24 and it was the worse for me personally because I was super emotional always crying and depressed. My FH thought I was going through a crisis and when I spoke to my doctor she had said that the hormones might be to much for me. So I guess it all depends on your body. If one pill doesn't work try the next.

Nope you found someone else lol. They are chewable too but I've never actually chewed them.

i am on ortho tri cyclin lo

i have been on it for over 6 years now and never had any side effects (no weight gain, no spotting, nothing) until the last few months i feel like my sex drive has decreased which i think is a combination of the pill and stress.

I'm not on ortho, but I feel your pain about the sex drive thing and I wonder if it's b/c of the Birth control... i guess it could also be stress.

I've been on Ortho Tri Cyclen, Ortho Lo, Loestrin, Femcon and Yaz. Femcon is a chewable, so I couldn't do it, sounds weird but just didn't like the taste. Loestrin I hated, I gained weight and my period stopped all together but it kind of freaked me out. The orthos were fine. And now Yaz is good. I did notice my sex drive went up a bit from Yaz. - sorry if this was all tmi but hth

I am also on Loestrin 24... don't get a period... don't get cramps... didn't gain weight. I honestly can't think of anything negative about it. I used to have horrible, atrocious cramps and very heavy bleeding, as well as vicious mood swings. Don't have any of those issues now, and I couldn't be happier. You have to be ok with possibly not getting your period though.

I've been on it for about 2 1/2 years and haven't had any problems.
