I feel like an idiot for saying this but I am having the hardest problem remembering the pill. I was thinking of trying the Nuvaring. Are any of you on the Nuvaring? If you don't feel comfortable chatting about it on message boards please FM. I really need info. One my friends said she couldn't get it out and another said it fell it. Please let me know. TIA.
Love love love the nuvaring! I never remembered the pill so it was very convenient. Its always my 1st go to for my younger female patients as a hormonal contraceptive. For the most part; u don't feel it, he doesn't feel it, and it doesn't move. Its awesome!
However, sometimes u may feel it, he may feel it and it may fall out. Like I said above FOR THE MOST PART hahaha so all that is possible, but not too common.
I have 2 friends that say it came out around the mans penis. Hahaha I was dying.
It is IMPOSSIBLE not to be able to get it out. I promise u, that as long as its in there, u can remove it. The vagina ends (then ur cervix-> uterus) so it CANNOT get lost inside ur body!!
Birth control is like trying on a dress, u need to find the one that fits u best. One that u like, its trial and error. If ur sceeved out by the thought of putting something inside ur vagina and/or putting ur hands in there, then its not for u.
Good luck!!

Re: NWR: Birth Control Nuvaring
Have you considered depo provera? I dont have any info on NuvaRing other than I know there's a slightly increased risk with clots and I just can't imagine having to deal with having an onbject hanging out up there.

My doctor said the IUD is not recommended if you don't have kids.

I have the paraguard IUD and I don't have kids. It doesn't cause any risk to future kids, it's just not as easy to go off if you decide you want kids.
I honestly can't wholeheartedly recommend it though. I have some problems with it, but it's supposed to take a year to completely adjust to it.

Re: NWR: Birth Control Nuvaring
My sister used the Nuvaring and had a lot of problems with it. She decided the pill was best for her so she started setting her phone alarm to remind her daily until she remembered on her own. I've been on the pill for over ten years and never had a problem. I stopped in 2008, had my son in 2009, and now back on it. No problems.

Re: NWR: Birth Control Nuvaring
Because of nonstop issues with the pill I switched to the nuvaring. Been on it for 3 years and LOVE it. Have had no problems with it. And the only issue is that during sex it could pop out but you just rinse it off and stick it back in. Like a tampon as long as you insert if correctly you can't feel it. Taking it out the first or second time is tricky at first but you get used to it. FM me if you have any questions.

Re: NWR: Birth Control Nuvaring
I hate the pill...i keep forgetting it and its an accident waiting to happen....but, i had so many issues when starting with OCPs that i finally found one that works without horrible side effects that i don't want to switch to the ring.
3 of my good friends use the ring and love it. It comes out very rarely and they tell me that they dont feel it (nor does their partners) during sex. When i was in my OBGYN rotation we tried to get everyone on them!
As for the new IUDs, you no longer need to be with child (LOL) to have them placed. The IUD really made a comeback in the past 5 -10 years. They are much safer and extremly effective.
We also pushed depo alot with our post-partum patients....but a lot of them hated the weight gain. Also, its more permanet than something like the ring or IUD which can be 'removed' quickly.
Good luck, FM me if you need any more information and i can take a look in my textbooks.

-- The above statement it NOT true. Paragard is NON-hormonal it is made out of copper, so there is no 'wait period'. IUD's are not for women who do not have a monogamous LTR relationship. There is an increased risk of PID (pelvic inflammatory disease) and the Dr I work for will not insert an IUD in a woman who does not have children. There are two forms on IUD's, the non-hormonal- Paragard and then the one with hormones, Mirena, which is what I have. ---- Paragard does cause irregular, heavy bleeding and sometimes you can bleed for months. I find my patients either love it or hate it.
Everyone is different, give the Nuva a try, and if you don't like it, then there are other options. DepoProvera is one, but with Depo there is irregular bleeding and some people have weight gain. It is good for 3 months, so if you don't like it, you're stuck until you are due for the next shot. There is Implanon, a small rod device that is implanted in the inside of your upper arm, it is good for 3 yrs, again, there are side effects that you may not like, but you can have it removed anytime. Hope this help somewhat.

Re: NWR: Birth Control Nuvaring
i was on nuva ring for 3.5 years. never had any problems with it.
like the other girls said... sometimes it does slip out during sex but very infrequently and you can't feel it when its in.
whenever i decided to go back on bc i will definitely stay with nuvaring.

My doctor strongly recommended it- The current research shows there minimal risk- The IUD I have has no hormones and the major 'risk' in a woman who has not had a child is there is a chance that the body may expel it during menstruation. I will take the possibility of my body expelling it over the potential of stroke or blood clot from hormone containing birth control ( I suffer from severe migraines and the risk of stroke is greatly increased for me). Each month after your period you have to check for the string of the IUD to make sure it is still in place but this applies to all women b/c there is a chance the IUD can be expelled even in a woman who has had a baby.

Removal is simple- You just have to make an appointment with your gyn to have it removed-No waiting for your cycle to adjust. According to my gyn removal literally takes a few minutes.

Re: NWR: Birth Control Nuvaring
dont do the depo! horrible weight gain and irregular bleeding!
and the IUD should never be put in a woman who has not had children...
the reason being is that you can get Pelvic Inflammatory Disease and ruin your tubes causing you to be infertile
also, it can cause perforation of your uterus which in turn could cause you not to be able to child bear
these are very slight risks but still not worth chancing, most doctors do not want to be responsible or have an IUD responsible for a woman not being able to have children.

Re: NWR: Birth Control Nuvaring
I also take the pill--and NEVER remember to take it! Even before i opened this thread; i thought to myself I didn't take a pill since last week either thursday or friday!
Anyway; i used the Ring for about 6 months. THought it worked really well; didn't ever have to worry about missing a pill so that was nice. No problems inserting; but felt like i could never get it high enough LOL! Only reason why i stopped was cause i though it was too much $50 per scrip was a lot (usually gave 3 months supply); compared to my $7 BCP scrip for the same amount of time.
Did Depo when i was younger; heard it has a risk of bone density loss. Don't know if i'd ever go back on that.

Re: NWR: Birth Control Nuvaring
I love the Nuvaring! I've been on it for about a year and had no problems with it so far. The only thing is the Nuvaring can be very expensive even with insurance. I would say try it because it is very convenient especially if you forget to take the pill, like I used to.

Re: NWR: Birth Control Nuvaring
Okay, so here's what I know about this stuff:
Depro provera is very scary stuff. Just remember BC can mess your hormones up and make it difficult to have kids in the future. I have a friend that took Depro provera and her doc thinks it royally screwed her and she is having a real hard time getting pregnant. She is wishing to god she never got it. It's not very common anymore and I think there's a reason for that.
IUDs are recommended only if you've already have kids, because after that your uterus has stretched and if it hasn't yet it can be uncomfortable. I don't think it has to do with the cervix opening (because the opening changes after you have given birth that way) because I know someone who had a C-section and didn't have a prob with it.
My experience with the Nuva ring: I liked it until I realized it was causing excess discharge and that made me very unhappy. It can cause that but I seem to be the only one I know who had that problem. I never had it fall out or anything, and I was always able to retrieve it. You do have to remember when to put it in and take it out, mine came with a timer but you can also set some reminders on your phone each month. I had a friend who doesn't remember what she did with it whether she just never put it back in, or never took it out or what she did (she was going through a very stressful time) and she is now pregnant.
As for the pill, I used to set a reminder everyday to take it since I would forget. But since it's been so many years I just leave it on my nightstand and take it when I go to bed. If I forget, it's right there when I wake up so I can tell I need to take one right then!

Re: NWR: Birth Control Nuvaring
The only reason I think it's not easy to stop using the Paraguard is because you have to make an appointment to get it removed, and at my OBGYN that can take a month or so. I am well aware that you can get pregnant as soon as it's removed. Technically, you can get pregnant on the pill while you take it. My sister was sick for one day, took her pill, no antibiotics or anything, and she got pregnant. She must have thrown up one pill.
All in all this is dependent upon each individual person and I think any form of birth control is going to be different for everyone and should be discussed with your own doctor who knows your history and physical make up.
