NWR- Calling all teachers

i grad in 2001 with a degree and provisional cert in elem ed. i got grandfathered in under the old certification rules. i took and passed the LAST and the AST W while still in school. Ive been working for the last five years, finished my masters in school counseling and have a cert in that too. I just got my scores back from the AST P and passed.

so today i go to apply for my permanent cert and see that i need to take the CST?!?!?!?! since when???? id love to call NYSED and ask, but they never answer the phone. its always busy!

so, you permanently certified teachers.... do i need the CST for permanent cert?

Hi
I am under the old certification too. i got my undergrad in special ed/elementary ed and just finished my masters in literacy. I need to take the multisubject CST and the literacy CST and do the video to get my permanent certification. I think there are also workshops that we need to take as well. There is a CST in Agust that you can sign up for, you will probably have to pay a late fee.....

i have been a certified teacher for a while now, i took the cst in elementary education for my elementary education permanent licence, my masters was reading ( before it became literacy) and did not have to take a cst for my permanent reading license

I have been teaching 7 years, and was under the old rules. Yes, you have to take the CST to be permanently certidied. It was always this way. It says it on the nysed website and also in the testing guide. When do you have to have your stuff in for perm cert? Just so you know, even if you are tenure and your provisional expires, your district can let you go b/c they consider you incertified. It almost happened to me. I thought I still had another year and never handed the stuff in. I was really under the gun to get my stuff in and the personel director told me if my cert expired, they could fire me even though I had tenure. I know it's crappy news to share, but I thought you would want to know.

You have to take the CST and do the video - the CST is not bad, just more $$$$ out of your pocket. If you have been teaching for 5 years you should be fine.

how annoying! thanks for all the info! even though its not what i wanted to hear! LOL i registered for the aug26 test and it cost an extra $70 'emergency' fee! what a ripoff!

heres another question:

do you think i should apply for an extension, or will i make it by the skin of my teeth? my provisional expires sep2006!

I grad. in 2003 and was the last graduatiing class to be given the old testing regulations

I took LAST, ATS-W, CST (all three were required for graduation at my college)

Im 4 classes away from my masters and will be making my video sometime this year.

i wish i could help but im under the new regs. there is no more perm. cert. u start on initiaal and in order to keep ur certification you have to have so many hours of PD to i guess you would say renew ur cert. and there is no video for the newbies.

Definitely apply for the extension...it takes a few months before the scores for the CST will come in...

i'm under the old rules too.... i needed the multi-subject area CST ( for elem. ed.) and the video test. I needed NO tests for my permanent special ed. license... just the Masters and teaching experience. (also OLD guidelines for sp. ed.)
