NWR: Can anyone help.....

I was a nanny to this family up until last Friday when there dog attacked me. He ripped my hand up. I went to give him water like I did everyday and Friday he just went after me. He went for my face but I blocked him and he got my hand pretty good. I was putting the water dish back when I saw him run after me and jumped on me. I went to the doctor yesterday and they said they want me to see a hand surgeon because I may have nerve damage. The woman was home when this happen and she didn't even come downstairs when I screamed bloody murder. She only paided for one of my doctor visits and none of my medicine. I have health insurance but its still the point ur dog bite me you should be paying right? My question is.......... If I have major damage to my hand, can I sue? im in a lot of pain. I have only one hand I can use. I've had my DH and my mother here helping me dress, drive me places cause i cant drive, eat and clean around the house. im now to scared to go back to that house because of the dog so now im out of a job now. Anyone know how this works? Everyone tells me I can sue but should I? Thanks in advance!!

You can sue for anything, but you have to decide if you want to. I hope you heal quickly!

Re: NWR: Can anyone help.....

My brother was bit by a dog while housesitting at our neighbor's. Three of his fingers were broken and he needed physical therapy for about 5 months. The neighbor's homeowners insurance covered everything. You can go to the doctor, then they bill the neighbors homeowner's insurance- that's what insurance is for. My brother eventually got a settlement (about 3 years later) from the insurance company, the company took care of it, it wasn't something my parents pursued (they did not sue anyone). It just came in the mail one day and they were not expecting it!
As far as suing the owners of the dog, I would not be comfortable doing that, but it is common to file a claim with homeowners insurance so all your medical bills are paid, and you are compensated for lost wages.
Feel Better!!

Feel better sweetie!! I would talk to the homeowners and ask for their Insurance information so that you don't have to sue. But if they give you a hard time, then you may have to step it up and file suit. Good luck to ya! I am sure it is not an easy thing to deal with!

Re: NWR: Can anyone help.....

Did you tell the dr. whose dog it was that bit you? I would assume that they will be contacted by the police to have their dog checked for rabies. Just because they have had the rabies vacination doesn't matter. Usually they want another test to prove they don't and a police officer will be questioning them about the dog.. if he has ever attacked before and stuff like that because they could make them put the dog down. (that is how it works in Illinois where I live) As far as suing I would definitely make her homeowners insurance covers it. I think you might have to file a police report though in order to do that. I am not 100% sure how that works though. I would definitely want to be reimbursed for bills and time off work and pain and suffering.

I hope you feel better soon!!!
