nwr: Can anyone recommend a short getaway for UNDER $1k?
We're looking around - just came into some unexpected money. The majority of it went into the wedding fund, but we can spare $1k-1500 to do something...
We CAN go to 1500, but I'd like to stay around <$1000.
Any ideas? If we're going to splurge, I found a SWEET deal for a Celebrity Cruise from NJ to Bermuda for 7 NIGHTS for $1553...but I'd really like to go cheaper.

eta: We can only travel between August 12th and the 26th, because Rich's classes start back up on 8/30.

Soooo that rules out that fabulous Bermuda cruise.
I'm looking into Vegas now, since we've never been there!

lol just got a link you'll find relevant a 7 day trip to Aruba for 635 a person I think. The departure is 8/19 I think that should be just enough time.

this looks awesome...airfare from NY is crazy though! It ends up coming out to $17XX from here
I'm conflicted! FH realllly wants to get away, but we could realllly use it for the wedding...

Hey,
Last year I went on a 4 day 3 night cruise to the bahamas which was awesome!! It was only $250 for each of us (inside cabin) Overall (with the drinking, Flights (jet blue, super cheap) and the excursions) I think I spent about 550-600. We also spent an extra day in Miami so that was part of the additional $$ too!! We took Carnival from Miami....it was SUCH a good time!!

What about a basic atlantic city weekend...you have the beach, bars, nightlife....and relaxation during the day. We do there occasionally when we get room comps....you don't even have to be gamblers (I don't gamble) but I still love going there...there is always live bands at night, the bars are right along the boardwalk on the beach...it's actually pretty cool.

That's our last resort...we usually go to the tropicana - but last time we went there, we ended up spending about $750 and we only slept there 1 night!!!

try the norwegian crown bermuda cruise- we went like 3 years ago around that time and i think we payed close to 700- mind you food and all that in included
check out travelocty or expedia

How about the Poconos? There are a few resorts, Ceasers and Great Wolf, you can make it along weekend and it will be just about 1 K! Good luck! XOXOXO Kitty

Vegas is sooo cheap in August. If you are willing to do a red-eye, stay in one of the cheaper hotels, etc. you can do it for so cheap! We've stayed at the Sahara to save $$, its at the end of the strip, BUT its always less than $100 a night, its on the monorail line so you can get to any hotel in a couple of seconds and the rooms are clean. Throw in free drinks, cheap food.... What more can you ask for? We go every year in the fall and do it for WELL under $1000...
You could always come down to DC!

We went on a Western Caribean cruise leaving from Miami on a Friday, stopping @ Key West & Playa del Carmen, returning on Monday. We paid $420 each for the cruise & air. I got that deal on travelocity. We also got upgraded to an outside cabin.
As for Vegas, try flying Southwest out of Islip and when looking for hotels, ask them if they offer any discounts. I got a great rate @ Paris for <$100 b/c of a AAA discount. We just booked a hotel in Chicago w/ a Beta Gamma Sigma discount.
In Vegas, one of the hotels is always offering something. I like Bally's b/c it's on the strip and not too expensive since it's one of the older hotels. We stayed @ Aladdin last year and it was cheap b/c they are changing to Planet Hollywood.
Also look at travelzoo and cheaptickets.

How about going to an island... no cruise...
My FH and I went to DR super cheep... I think it was $1000 airfare and hotel included!!!

Thanks everyone - the week we're looking to go is a huge vacation week for a lot of families, so airfare is KILLER....
So far the best deal I have is 4 days, 3 nights in Vegas (flight gets in at 7am on day 1, leaves at 11pm on day 4)- at Paris, Paris - for just under $900....although that doesn't include food or drinks, I think we should be able to eat cheap in Vegas.
I've looked into islands, cruises, Disney, the Florida Keys, (all too expensive - comes out to $1600+) Bahamas (reallly don't wanna go there again), Bermuda (too long of a trip...)
So I'm really narrowing it down!
We need a short trip with easy access to internet and working cell phones because Rich is desperately seeking a teaching job, and we've been told that week is the #1 week for last minute interviews hirings.
I'm still pricing Vegas - if anyone knows of anything else, please let me know!
