NWR- Cat has cancer- any vets out there - long
I hate to post such a sad subject, but I just found out Friday that my cat has bone cancer. I can't stop cryiong. From what the vet I took her too said, ther is really nothing that can be done. I can have her go through chemo or radiation, but that would buy her just a little time, and that time I think would really be for me, and I don't want to put her through that. They took blood and the results looked very good. So far there has been no spreading of the cancer, which by the way is in her jaw right now. She still has a apetite and is still grooming herself, which is major that she is still doing this (very sick cats will stop grooming themselves). Except for sleeping a little more than usual, she is her normal self, except she can only eat soft, canned food, not anything hard. Does anyone know of any newer treatments that are not harsh for the animal? I can bring her in on Wed. for a biopsy, but the vet is over 9+0% sure the cancer is what she has, and they have to put her under for the test, and I am so afraid that instead of having her for a little while longer, she may not come out of the surgery, I don't want her to suffer at all. I have had her for 13 years, and she is truly like my best friend !! Does anyone have any advise or suggestions, or has anyone had to go through something like this with their pets. Not sure what I am looking for here, just always get and see such great support on here !! Sorry if I am rambling .

I am so sorry to hear about your cat. As a dog owner, I can relate to how much your pet means to you. This past week, my dog had a lump removed from her back. The surgery was successful, although we won't have the results of the biopsy for about 8 days or so. The wait is driving me nuts and all I can do is look down at her, and just hope for the best.
I don't know of any new treatments other than chemo and radiation. I've heard of people doing this for their pets and it working, and others did not.
I wouldn't want my pet to suffer either. You have to be humane and put the interest of your pet first. Personally, I don't know if I would put my dog through chemo or radiation. It just seems so harsh for such a small animal.
Keep us posted, ok? Think positive!

I am so sorry to hear about your cat. I have three cats so I know how upset you must be. When you see the vet, ask him about a medicine called 'transfer factor' it is a homeopathic medicine that works on people and animals in the treatment of cancer. Look it up on the internet. Supposedly, this stuff works miracles. Please let us know how everything works out. I will be praying for your kitty.

I recommend you go to the Animal Medical Center in Manhattan. They're on East 62nd-right by the Queensboro Bridge. It's one the finest facilities in the country and I have had so much success bringing my cats there. They are affiliated with the Cornell Prgram and are miracle workers. You can get a referral to see them from your vet. If you need more info-please don't hesitate to email me. I know what you're going through!!

My dog years ago got cancer when she was 4 years old. Unfortunately we had to put her to sleep, but for awhile we had tried something that the vet had suggested. I can ask my mom for the exact stuff used, I think it was some sort of powder which has shark cartilage in it. Not sure exactly what it was supposed to do.... but I figure it's worth a shot. Let me know if you want more info and I'll try to find out the specifics for you.I hope everything works out ok!

Sorry about your cat
I was a vet tech for many years-I can relate my experience.
Almost nobody does the chemo therapy on pets-and I agree with that decision. It would put the animal through too much pain which they can't understand - a person who gets knows all that suffering may help them-but and animal doesn't.
If it were me, I would keep the cat comfortable until you fell her suffering is too much.
Good luck

I am so sorry to hear about your cat, I felt very bad reading your post. I lost one of my cats 2 months ago to liver cancer, we put her to sleep because we felt her suffering was not an option. I agree with Cher, keep the cat comfortable, love her and cherish her until you feel it is her time. I understand how hard this is, and you and your kitty are in my prayers

Re: NWR- Cat has cancer- any vets out there - long
Thank you all for all of your suggestions and kind words. Cher-- I think that is the decision we have come up with. I spoke to the vet again, and in all honesty- she feels there is just nothing that we can do at this point that will 'cure' her, and I don't want to put her through chemo, which would really only be for my benefit of keeping her a little longer, but with her doing the suffering from the chemo.. and that is not an option. She is doing good right now, so the vet said to keep an eye on her, feed her a lot to keep her calorie intake up, and as the vet said, no one knows her like I do, and I will know when it is time. So I will enjoy the rest of our time together, love her, and spoil her even more than I already have. Thanks again to everyone.Welcome New Vendors
