Hi girls - FH and I are going to be godparents to his niece (soo excited!!). The christening is next month, and I'm wondering if anyone knows what the godparents usually give as a gift? Do you give money or jewelry to a 6 month old?? Any help would be greatly appreciated! TIA!!

Re: NWR: Christening Gift
I gave my goddaughter a chain & cross and I bought her christening outfit. If you don't do either, I would say $100-150 from the two of you is good (or a bond). However, you have to just give what you can afford.

The godparents usually buy the christening outfit. My family also does a solid gold ID bracelet.

When my niece was born I bought her christening gown and the godfather bought her first cross necklace.

Re: NWR: Christening Gift
Jewelery of a cross is appropriate or a children's bible is also nice.
If it is a catholic christening a nice pair of rosary beads is great or perhaps a Miraculous Medal or a medal of a saint (they have St. Anthony medals, St. Christopher, etc.)

We were told that the god parents usually give the child a chain with a cross on it, or even a pin. You can give them an ID bracelet also.

Re: NWR: Christening Gift
My oldest son's godmother bought him an amazing heirloom christening outfit and his godfather got him a chain and cross. My younger son's godparents were married and they bought a beautiful christening outfit and cross.
With both of my sons, the godparents set up an educational fund and made nice first deposits. Each set of godparents contributes money to the fund on birthdays and holidays. It is a nice little nest egg for them and a very thoughtful way to keep them in mind for the future.

Re: NWR: Christening Gift
I gave my godson $$, the christening outfit, a godson poem (it was in a picture frame I got from Fortunoff) and an outfit for the after party.
His godfather gave him jewelry.
Again, it is whatever you can afford. I think Jewelry is always a nice gift.

Re: NWR: Christening Gift
Usually in my family the godparents give the Christening outfit and cross as well. However, for our god-daughter, the grandparents bought all that. So we gave her a gold earring and bracelet set, a memory box from things rememebered and money to start off her college funds.

A cross and chain is always nice. You could also buy rosary beads

Re: NWR: Christening Gift
My son was just christened at 3 months. The godparents bought the chain with cross, and an ID bracelet. Usually they buy the christening outfit as well, but I used my 8 year old son's (which by the way looked gorgeous on him). They also gave a monetary gift as well. Thats how it works in our family. But if you can't afford all of that, I'd say the necklace and cross is sufficient. My son's godparents also gave the donation to the church as well, but that was just us.
