Our law firm had a staff meeting this morning that let us know that our sister firm (we share office space with another insurance defense firm that does a slightly different area of law) that approximately TEN people were laid off today. This included 7 lawyers and at least 3 lawyers who I knew and are men in their late 40s with 10+ years experience.
They were just told today to clean up their desks and to leave by 5 pm. No notice, no time to come back and pack up, no nothing.
I feel absolutely horrible. We were all in a state of shock and reassured that our firm would not be downsizing but now I am starting to worry....

Re: NWR: Company Downsizing/Layoffs
So sorry to hear about this... it's just so sad that people who have paid tens of thousands of dollars on their degrees, with years of experience, who probably chose this profession because they thought they would be secure and comfortable, aren't even safe in this economy. Especially before the New Year?! Seriously. At least they will all probably be able to find good jobs with all of that experience.
If they told you that your firm isn't downsizing, try not to worry! I know it's scary but hang in there and everything usually works itself out.
Good luck with everything!
