Re: NWR--Crazy work hours
I don't. I used to work a regular full time job until I was about to have my 2nd baby then due to the bad economy my boss had to put me down to 2 days a week (great timing w/ the added expense of a 2nd baby). But now i'm up to a whopping 2 1/2 days and I don't think after being home with my kids like this I would ever want to work regular hours again. Is it hard working nights???

Re: NWR--Crazy work hours
I'm only working per diem right now. Which basically means as needed. So I can go one week where I work full time, and another week where I work nothing. Basically I work about 2 days a week right now. I have another per diem job at another hospital, so I am hoping to pick up some more hours there. I get whatever shifts I can right now, so when there is nothing sometimes I work nights. Its not bad when you do it once in a while, but I could NEVER work full time nights. When I was a new nurse, I used to work full time night shift 7pm to 7 am and it was a killer, I was so miserable even though it was 3 days a week!!! I remember it being during the summer and I used to go to BBQ's and I would fall asleep at the table...horrible!!

I could imagine!! I would never want to work night like that but don't want to go back to full time days either lol too bad we don't have more $$ lol FH used to work a night shift from 10 pm - 7 am... it was horrible!!! we only had our first daughter then and she was a baby baby. we had her with the babysitter twice a week so he could get sleep. I felt horrible, he was working and taking care of the baby more then he slept but at least that is in the past! lol.... per diem hours are crazy too!! I don't know how I could do that... I would be all over the place schedule wise!! Good luck!!

I don't work nights but I remember from another post once you mentioned you were a psych nurse...how do you like that area? I've mentioned before I am a nursing student and I also have a BA in psychology so I always thought I would find that area really interesting.

Re: NWR--Crazy work hours
I love it. A lot of nurses have this thing where they would NEVER work psych, but I really love it. I find it so interesting, and I am never bored. I always have good stories to bring home!! The only thing that sometimes frustrates me is that it is a lot of the same patients over and over. I work in a small community hospital so that could be why, but the mental health system is mostly a revolving door and I'm sure it is the same at other hospitals as well. Plus the people who work psych are always so much fun, my coworkers are great and we are always laughing! I think when you graduate you should seriously consider it

Re: NWR--Crazy work hours
I go to Molloy. I worked for a year with the MR/DD population and a lot of them suffered from some sort of mental illness also and I loved it. I really feel that I will end up with the population. Is there a reason why a lot of people don't like working as a psych nurse?

Re: NWR--Crazy work hours
Ooh I graduated from Molloy in 2005! I'm back for my masters now. If you need any notes or anything, let me know I have them saved still..I'm weird like that. I think they don't like it because they are scared, and sometimes the patients can really really get to you. Like tonight I am going to have to listen to an 80 year old lady scream MAAAAARTY (her husband) for 8 hours.
