I leave for work at 6AM and I am home around 5PM. If I want to defrost chicken cutlets that I take out at 6AM should I keep them OUT or put them in the fridge?
Thanks!

I would either leave them on the counter all day or leave them out the night before and then just pop them in the fridge.

Crap...I have chicken defrosting on my counter right now. Now I'm scared to eat it
I wouldn't be scared. I'm not. Obviously the FDA says it's bad, but leaving it on the counter is the way I've done it my whole life, that's how my mom did all throughout my childhood, and I'm still alive and kicking.
That's how my mom did it too!! Oh well, whats a little bacteria!

At culinary school, we were taught to leave it in the fridge overnight (or days for a turkey) or leave it in cool running water in the sink. So I'd say the safest way is to leave it in the fridge. You can leave it on the counter but I wouldn't say longer than 8 hours max.

omg no do not leave them on the counter...i have taken 2 food manager classes and that is a big no no...do u know that food u leave out after 20 minutes its starts growing bacteria and the bacteria doubles every 20 minutes. after that. Think about that the next time u leave pizza on the counter and go back to it 2 hours later. u have to store things at the right temp to prevent this. if your looking to make the cutlets tonight take them out of the freezer and put in the fridge.. when u get home take them out and put in a bowl of cool water on the counter..they will defrost 30-40 min later..
yes my sister was a nutrition major, and she constatnly yells at my mom for leaving stuff out on the counter. Take them out of the freezer the night before and put them into the fridge. Then they'll defrost for a whole day, while still being at a safe temperature.

Well you should defrost them the night before and then that morning put them in the fridge
