NWR: DH's 30th Birthday

Soo I wanna do something specal for DH's 30th birthday which is this coming January.

I am thinking I'd like to take him to AC for the weekend. He loves to gamble and we both love nice restaurants and some nightife, drinks and just an overall fun time.

Here's the catch... his birthday falls on a Thursday. I would consider going the weekend before but that MLK weekend and the prices are like double for the 3 day weekend. Should I

A. Do a small immeidate family and close friends thing at home with app's, drinks...cake and coffee and surprise him that night that we are leaving the following day (Friday-Monday)

or

B. Do the cake thing the weekend before and we leave on his birthday (Thursday-Sunday)

I just kinda feel bad driving for hours on his b-day, Plus then his family wouldn't be able to see him on his b-day bc we'll be in the car. And the reason I don't want to have a big surprise 30th bday party is people were sooo generous with the wedding and shower, bach parties.. etc. I don't want to have a big thing where people feel obligated to give him (us) another gift.

If anyone has a better suggestion I am open to hearing them, also any info on AC I'd appreciate too. I've only been there once and it was for a 1 night b-party

I like choice A. I think Matt will appreciate being able to celebrate with friends/family and then spending the weekend alone with you
