NWR: Did you ever notice....

Original post by Mrs.C 102608

Did you ever notice that some people take losing weight or staying thin way too far? To the point that they start too not even have a shape anymore. Just curious if it is just me or if others have noticed this.

some people might take it too far - but i dont want my thighs to touch either! and im tiny! i dont think there is anything wrong with being food conscious - sometimes when people see thin girls they assume that they must be starving but eating a salad and going to the gym is better than stuffing your face with french fries - i work hard to keep my body in shape - i try my best to eat right (although i slip up occasionally!) and i exercise as well - to be honest i rather someone think that i was 'too thin' than 'too fat' - because i know what it feels like to be both and trust me i rather be called to thin anyday! i think people focus too much on thin people when the focus should really be worrying about obesity in this country - its becoming an epidemic and there are so many overweight people and its unhealthy and dangerous....i notice that people always have a lot to say when it comes to being skinny or thin like there is something wrong with it - i know this because people even make comments to me but i think they are just jealous - because FH ain't complaining!

you mean, like nicky hilton?

She actually has some kind of shape. I am talking more like nicole ritchie a while back....she was just so thin, had dark circles under her eyes and was so pasty pale. I dont know why you would want to look like that.

the perception they see in the mirror is not the same as to what the rest of the world sees. Its like they are looking at themselves through distorted glasses.

I know many girls who have taking eating, weight way to far. Unfortunately it is extremely common. What everyone has to remember is that is more of a mental illness then a physical one. It is usually about so much more then eating and weight.

VERY true ....it is almost NEVER about the food as it the feeling of wanting to be in control

Yikes...I love food too much for me to think that way. Especially if you throw a brownie obsession or a triple chocolate molten cake my way!!! Can't control myself.

I mean there is nothing wrong with being thin but some girls cross the line of thin and emaciated looking, that is when it becomes a problem. Even the most beautiful girls start to look ugly when they reach that point.

I agree, it the way people percieve themselves and it is a mental illness. Most people like to watch what they eat and excercise to stay healthy but when do you just stop losing weight and just maintain a healthy one? I for one need to lose a few pounds but I would rather be at the weight I am then look like a bag of bones and obsess over my weight. You need to get out and enjoy life.

I agree with what you are saying about obesity being an epidemic in this country and how unhealthy it is . There is nothing wrong with watching yourself and going to the gym and being healthy or wanting to be thin.... hell i want to be thin too ! its when girls take it to far that all they think about is food, and won't ever indulge ,and eat well below ( if any ) what they are supposed to !

There is a difference to me when I see a thin pretty girl ( like you mulligan ! ) or like my friend who i could count her ribs , and see her spine , where she looks SICK

i know a few girls that ended up in the hospital on feed tubes and one had a heart attack from not eating. not ALL thin girls have an eating disorder and you don't have to be thin to have one either

i agree that some people are too thin and its def a mental illness - to be honest i think ive only seen one person in real life who looked like they had an eating disorder but she also could be sick so im not 100% sure - but i think that sometimes thin girls with nice bodies get grouped into that category of 'she's too skinny' when they actually look great....people stereotype thin people just like they do overweight people - 'thin people starve themselves' and 'overweight people cant stop eating' and neither is true.....i think its scary that it happens to people (anorexia/bulimia) - but ive never actually known anyone with anorexia or have seen anyone who was that thin (except the one girl i mentioned above). but i have heard negative comments about girls my size who i think look great and that i think comes from animosity towards people who are naturally thin or dont have to work that hard to stay thin - because i only notice negative comments coming from people who are overweight - people who are thin get a lot of crap - ive seen so many posts on the NW board over this, because it can be offensive to thin girls

i know some girls who are naturally like that, one girl is rail thin and she eats ALOT and all the time. But i do know what you mean, if they are healthy then thats fine but some go too far and put their health at risk. I dont know thats crazy though...i do know people who think OMG i am so fat meanwhile infact they are TOO skinny, and then wont eat alot, meanwhile im like ok you can eat a cheeseburger right now and you wont gain weight.

Its crazy, and i just hope these girls arent hurting themselves. I mean listen we all worry about weight, im not one to talk. But also when i was losing weight, i had to stop at one point bc i thought i was getting too skinny(wow wish that was my problem now hahahaha) and everyone kept pointing it out too but i also like to have curves so when i do lose weight i like to focus on waist, abs and arms and also get toned. But everybody likes different things.

This is me exactly. i was always thin and i inhale food whenever i see it. i am always thinking about putting on like 10 or 15 pounds but i cant

p.s. i know some people trying to lose weight might roll their eyes at my comment but its true, some people are naturally thin and want to gain weight but cant

i dont think many of us are saying being thin is bad we're talking about those who take it too far and have eating disorders. There is a difference between being thin and then being too thin and somebody who starves themself, i think thats what we are trying to say.

if someone is thin and eats and is healthy then good. But there is a problem out there now and it is serious, im talking about anorexic and bullemic girls, now that is a problem these girls are killing themselves, many do die and many have serious health conditions.

Some might be about jealousy but not with everybody honestly. When i got down to 115 i didnt want to get any smaller than that, i made sure not to. When i told my Fh now that i want to lose 15 pounds he said NO dont lose that are you nuts, dont even lose more than 7 if you want to lose weight. But thats bc he personally is not into very thin girls, he likes very very curvy lol and if they are thin and i mean regular thin he still likes for them to have curves. He personally likes a little bit thicker girls and not that they are big but lets say someone like vida guerra, kim kardashian basically those types. Even when watching americas next top model one time he said the plus size girl was the best one, she had a big fatty so thats why lol its also why he normally likes ethnic girls too lol the night he met me he thought i was spanish lol and i always joke around saying sorry i disappointed him that im not hahaha. I mean if i had my wish for a perfect body it would be to just add even more curves, i have curves but i would want it even more so lol.

i like being thin too but my definition of thin is probably different, i like having a flat stomach. So nobody is saying anything about 'THIN' but those who do go too far. I am watching what i eat all the time now and do eat healthy and say 'no i cant eat that' i think either extreme is unhealthy and a problem

I dont think that is 100% true because then you would be saying that every girl who posted on here about some girls going overboard and being 'too thin' is a heavy girl who is just jealous when that is not the case. I think Espo explained it best.

Plus the whole animosity towards girls who dont have to work at it and are naturally thin is not true, bc the whole point is girls who are very skinny and say they cant eat anything and will eat only small things or nothing at all, if they were naturally thin and didnt have to work at it then they wouldn't have to do that so then yes they actually do have to work at it and are not naturally thin.

Girls who are naturally thin and dont work at it can eat alot and not worry

I disagree with this - the not having anything to worry about part.

A thin girl who can eat anything she wants and not worry may not have to worry now. Just because she's thin doesn't mean she's healthy (or HE for that matter). If all they're eating are chips and cookies and soda, that's not healthy. KWIM?

I think we, as a country, make being super skinny (RE: Nicole Richie, pre-baby) glamorous and being heavier (not necessarily overweight) disgusting. There is a good chance that that girl with some meat on her bones is a hell of a lot healthier than the skinny girl (and I'm talking skin and bones here) because of her diet.

I'm CERTAINLY not skinny... it's not in my genes to be skinny... I'm not overweight either, but I know I'm healthy... and it's really hard not to second guess myself when all I see as 'healthy' are people like Jennifer Aniston and Eva Longoria - the size 2s of the world. Where is my nice and heatlhy size 10 or 12???

yes very true, they might have to worry about other things besides their weight. I just was responding that some girls have animosity towards thin girls because they dont have to worry about weight and don't have to work at it.

You can be very thin and have very high cholesterol, someone at my job is like that.
