NWR - do I tell someone they are being gossipped about

NWR - do I tell someone they are being gossipped about

I hate gossip. I really do.

There is a very nice young woman I work with that I don't know very well.

yesterday while chilling with some coworkers after hours, one of them mentioned that people think this young woman and a married supervisor are having an affair. I quickly dismissed it as nothing because the person who told it to me is known as being a gossip.

Today, a trusted coworker told me the same thing. She told me that 'everyone' in the company is talking about it. Another coworker overheard it and said she also heard people talking about it.

I know the supervisor in question, and I find it hard to believe this to be true. And I feel like they have a right to know what is being said about them behind their backs. I don't care whether it is true or not. They are both old enough to make their own choices.

I feel like writing this young woman an annonymous note telling her what is being said. I don't know her well enough to approach her about it. At the same time, I feel like I should do something before someone sabotages her career.

What do you think? Should I just stay out of it? She really is such a nice young girl with alot of potential, and I would hate to see her life ruined.

That's what I was thinking. But, I am worried someone will trace it back to me.

I would stay out of it. You don't want to be THAT person who got involved.

A smart reply and that is what I keep thinking. it's not my business.

But my conscience bothers me.

Believe me- I know how you feel. The only thing is it's different when it's at work. If this was my best friend, well then I'd tell her but this is a co-worker and things get messy at work. Be careful.

Well, it's late on Friday. I'll think about it over the weekend and see how I feel when Monday comes.

I would mind my own business - you dont want to be the one who brings it to anyones attention - plus if they are adults and are able to be sleeping around with each other and are keeping it in the dark as much as they can, i would not want to be the one to talk to her about it, or leave her a note - because if anyone sees you leave the note for her - i can almost guarantee that they will try and trace all of the gossip back to you as the creator of it... plus you cant be the gossip police at work... people are always going to talk...whether its true or not...

That kind of worries me ... i wouldnt base what i would do on how I feel... its not about you ... i just would think about what CAN come back to hurt you if you do anything.. i would let it be...
