My Dad was talking about his time in the Peace Corps. He lived with this family in Costa Rica for over a year and he talks about them every so often.
There's talk of a Peace Corps reunion in Costa Rica for his group. I was like, 'Dad, you can go visit the family you lived with!' He's like, 'Becca, the parents are probably dead! I was 23 when I lived with them and they were in their 40s/50s. I'm 66 now. There's a slight possibility they're still alive, but it's not likely.' And then he laughs at me! Ohh Dad
It's so weird, I still think of my Dad as being in his early/mid 40s. Do any of you ever have parent-age shock like me? I know it's kinda weird!

I do get sometimes the 'holy crap my parents are in their mid 50's! ' but I think that my parents see themselves way older than what they really are they say things like 'ooooh ur dad is an old man now' -- wt eff mom???

I definitely don't consider my mom old. My dad I joke around that he's an old man, but he's only 5 years older than my mom.
When I think old, I think of my 86 year old grandpa.

I always refer to my mommy as 'my little powerhouse', so I never really think of her as 'old'. But with the health issues she had lately, I think of her as 'getting up there'. She's 70, by the way~so I guess that is a 'little' old, huh? To me, she doesn's look a day over 50.

I still think of my parents as being young. my moms 48 and my dad's 52 so they're not toooo old but I think of em as young. When I think old I think 60+... I know its not a huuge difference between 60 and 52 but that's just what I think of em.

It's funny that you posted this question because I was just thinking about this! I always think of my parents as being in their 40's for some reason. They are 69 and 74. Those ages remind me of my grandmothers.

Re: NWR: Do you still think of your parents as young?
I know how old they are, but they both are looking very good for their age (my mom is 61 and my dad will be 62 in August). It kinda threw me for a loop when my Dad was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, because I definitely had thoughts like 'They're so young, they've got so much time left!'
He's fine, btw...they caught it really early and he'll make a full recovery...but it was weird. I don't feel old enough to have my parents going through something like that.

Well..my parents ARE young.
I'm almost 29.
My dad is 49.
My mom is 46.
I have a couple of friends that are almost my mom's age.
And I do think of them as young. They love to go out and have a damn good time!

Yes, in my mind, my dad is young still...even though he will be 70.
However, after reading this post...I am the one that is feeling old......alot of you girls have moms that are only a few years older than me(42)....geez!!! Thanks ladies!!
