So, do any of you girls actually live ON Long Island?
FI and I are currently Upstate right now. I hope to move back to NYC in the coming years but doubt we can afford something decent in the boroughs. And FI is use to more suburbia life as well...
Anyway, where do you live on Long Island? Do you like it? What neighborhoods would you gals recommend that's in a good school district? Near LIRR or bus to the city?
Thanks!

FH and I currently live in Great Neck - he grew up here, I grew up in Queens. From what I hear, the school districts are great. I love living here, we live near the LIRR so it's so convenient and there's so many shops and restaurants.

I live in Franklin Square. I grew up here and the schools are great. I think they are #4 in the state. They are definitely in the top 10. The taxes can be a little high though. I would like to stay here or go to Floral Park, but FH and I both work out in Suffolk, so we'll eventually be moving out there.

Re: NWR: Does anyone actually live ON Long Island?
WOW! Thanks for ALL the responses girls!!! I really appreciate it!
We currently live in Western New York...I came here for college and fell in love! Moved back for a year to NYC after college but ultimately came back...for love! Hehe.
Anyway, for the next 2 or 3 years we're definitely staying put until we get some other things rolling. But one of the options is definitely to move back to NYC to be closer to my family. His parents retired to middle GA and no way in heck I'm moving to the South!
My mom & older brother live in Queens and the other in SI. So I thought western LI closer to Queens would be ideal. I just don't think we can afford the boroughs. Ideally we would want it to be LIRR for ease of getting into the city. FI would go CRAZY with NYC car traffic on a daily basis.
I've thought too about Yonkers and Westchester.
I'm currently addicted to House Hunters on HGTV so it's really not helping my itch to finally go house hunting with the FI. We currently own our home but it kinda fell into our laps so there was no real searching involved.

Born and raised in Baldwin - its not really the same as it was and I wouldnt send my kids to school here. Over the past 10 years i feel like its kinda gone down the sh*tter.
FH has lived in Holtsville his whole life - went to Sachem schools and now is a teacher in the district. SO of course I think the schools there are good since he is part of the system lol
