I've had a lot of free time lately that's one of the reasons I am back on LIW. I was thinking of doing some volunteer work, or work as a private duty nurse taking care of an elderly patient (I just love the elderlies). I am a geriatric nurse so I was thinking maybe I should volunteer at an adult day care center. I was online searching for an adult day care center in my area, but I couldn't find one Does anyone know of an adult day care center in Valley Stream? Lynbrook? Woodmere? Elmont? Rockville Centre?
Does anyone do any volunteer work? If yes, what kind of volunteer work do you do?

Re: NWR: Does anyone here volunteer....
DH and I volunteer at the Freeport Animal Shelter. We walk and socialize the dogs. I update their website and do home checks and screens for adoptions.

I used to volunteer at Nassau University Medical Center on the Peds floor (my mom is a nurse there too). I really loved it, it was such a great experience! As for senior centers in the area, there is a Sunrise Assited Living on Franklin Ave in Lynbrook, and a new Senior care center called Sterling Glen on Ocean Ave in Lynbrook. Maybe you can check those places. Good luck!

Did you ever think of getting your independent provider number (not sure what it is called in NY) I did it in MA and now Ohio basically you hire privately for elderly and such but you bill straight to Medicaid yourself, however in MA I had a company who did my billing ... but it is really good money and you can pick the patients you want (or rather they pick you).

Seriously though, there are a lot of assisted living places in the area, most that I can think of off hand have been mentioned - Oh, except the Bristol in Woodmere. There's also non-residential senior centers (like where FH's grandma plays bingo a few times a week).
I work for a not-for-profit in the area that's always looking for volunteers and I also volunteer for a political campaign. FM me if you want more info on either of those.
