NWR Dog Ownership

NWR Dog Ownership

I need your help girls...

So my friend bought a dog with her then bf but he has since moved out and is a complete d o u c h e. She took the dog to the vet today and tried to have the dogs ownership put in her name but they said that they would need written permission from him. But, she also had the dog registered with AKC (?) and the dog is in both of their names. Is there any way she could get someone to change the ownership into her name?? She basically wants her ex completely out of her life and she is afraid that if she asks him for permission, he will fight for the dog. When he moved out he said she could keep him but shes afraid he will try and get the dog out of spite. Any suggestions??

I would just leave it alone.... I would be scared too that he would be spiteful. Is it a must that his name be off....like can she bring the dog to the vet and all of that without letting them know he is no longer in the picture... and I am not sure about AKC....obviously it is a pure breed but unless she is going to make money off the dog like at shows or breeding then I would just let it be.

Good luck to her though!!! That would be awful if she lost her pup!

I would actually leave ita lone unless he makes any claims to the dog....as long as her name is on the paperwork the dog is just as much HERS as it is HIS..... he may not make it an issue.. unless she does first?

i would call akc and see if there is a way to get in outta the paper work... other then that... the vet should have no say in it... you dont need paper work saying that it has changed owners... at least that's what i think... if the akc can show that it's just your friend now.. i think they could send a letter to the vet... goodluck with the dog...

That really stinks. Maybe if she never mentions it or tries to do anything, he wont either.

The problem is that she wants to have it neutered and shes afraid that since hes a purebred they may contact the owner (the ex bf) and he may say no. I told her to leave it alone too but shes gonna try another vet and see if they will do it. I told her to just tell them he abandoned it. He walked out and his contact number has been disconnected.

Yea they broke up and it was not pretty at all. His true colors came out. I feel awful for her and the last thing she needs is him taking the dog away.

I agree I would leave it alone, you don't know what goes through his head and he can be a real jerk and take the pup away and make a stink.

Good luck to your friend and the pup!

i agree with everyone else.. guys can be spiteful and if he knows she wants it, then he'll purposely try and take it away. if he said she can have it and just left, i wouldnt try to get the ownership from him. as long as she can take it to the vet and they dont need both of their signatures theres no sense to ask him then.

I don't think it really matters who's name the dog is listed under - all that matters is who cares for it. My dog is listed under FH in his chip but under my FFIL for the vet. I never had any problems at all!! And if he ever tries to take the dog away she can prove that she has been the real 'owner' by taking care of it. Possession is 90% of the Law!

I've known people who have had their dog neutered and didn't have a problem with getting it done. Also, depending on where the dog was purchase; the breeder would normally state in the contact that they dog had to be neutered because they don't want you to breed with another dog.
