NWR-Dominican Republic-Secrets Excellence

Has anyone been there or to the DR in general. Hubby and I are looking to get away in December. Thanks for your feedback.

Re: NWR-Dominican Republic-Secrets Excellence

My parents are from DR.

December could be like 70-80 degree weather, depending where you stay. Parties all over the place (holidays).

Flights can also be expensive because a lot of the natives go back to spend time with family for the holidays. Airlines always get $$ this way. The airlines can also get picky with suitcases and stuff.

Good luck.

We rated it a 5 star on our own scale (we had never been anywhere before). Food Quality and Service were impeccable! We never got sick, the choices were amazing, cooked to our order (medium rare/well done, etc.) Accomodations are breathtaking! Wow!.....We had the basic room on the 2nd floor (which is really the 3rd floor, they go ground, 1, 2) so we had cathedral ceilings and a view of a courtyard with a fountain but saw the mountains over the rooftops of the other buildings. VERY CLEAN! Very Friendly!

Since Sammy Sosa (of the Chicago Cubs) is from there, I happened to have brought my Sosa tee-shirt...I wore it one morning....that morning there was no fresh pineapple at the breakfast buffet (I was devastated!) but one of the chefs' saw my shirt and asked what I was looking for....he went in the back, brought some fresh pineapple to our table just for me!!!

We really enjoyed the fact that there were no kids and no singles....so therefore no drunken party goers running around acting like idiots. There is a small casino and a nightclub on the premises. There were plenty of activities going on, which we did not partake in....we were there to simply relax and enjoy being Newlyweds. No one tried to drag us or coax us to go and participate....and whatever was going on, we didn't know it.....no screaming or loud music. It was great. We took a moonlit horseback ride one night for extra money...the horseback riding books up FAST. The ocean was rough since it's on the Atlantic Side and not Caribbean side, but we stayed by the pool.

I hope this helps.....I'll edit with a link to the professional pictures we paid $160 for while there which was SO worth it!

We are close to booking for our HM. The quote we got for 9 days, 8 nights in the room Btrfly girl describes is $4300 and that includes airfare for 2.

I thought though that Secrets was on the Caribbean side?
Can you swim in the water or too rough?

our HM was in March, we booked in January, and paid $3500, including airfare, but that was for 7 days/6 nights.

DR is in the Caribbean, but Punta Cana is on the north side which touches the Atlantic. When were there, the ocean was rough...but there a few people out there

Re: NWR-Dominican Republic-Secrets Excellence

We went to Punta Cana three years ago and stayed at the Riu. The resort was awesome and the beach was huge and gorgeous. we didn't have any problem with the water being rough, we were swimming in it every day.

Re: NWR-Dominican Republic-Secrets Excellence

FH and I went last year for my 30th Birthday. We are still talking about it and comparing it to every other vacation we have gone on or are plannig. We HIGHLY recommend it!! Everything about it is top notch. The food is wonderful, the people that work there are great, well I could really go on and on.
There was actually another post here a few months ago where someone was looking for advice about it as well. You will not regret it if you go!!

Re: NWR-Dominican Republic-Secrets Excellence

my fH and I went to DR in May, we stayed at the marien coral by hilton and absolutely loved it. The food was great especially one of the mexican restaurants. We were at puerta plata. The pool was amazing too. We got amazing prices for airfare and all inclusive resort( go to Vacations to GO website) they were great. I also hear that punta cana's is also very beautiful, would love to go back for honeymoon, and everyone was very friendly.

Re: NWR-Dominican Republic-Secrets Excellence

Does anyone know if they suffered damage from the hurricanes this year? I heard about some islands that are having difficulty getting themselves back to normal, but didn't catch the names.

some parts did, if you need to know you could contact the resorts directly through their websites or ask a travel agent
