NWR - Drain problems....

NWR - Drain problems....

The drain in our tub is sooooooo clogged. It's not a normal tub drain that you can pull the stopper out, it has a cover over it, with holes in it. It has been clogged for weeks, and, 3 bottles of Liquid Plummer have done nothing. I hate to call maintenance because I hate having to sit here and wait for them.

Anyone have any way to fix this so I can avoid calling maintenance???

TIA!

Have you tried snaking it? You can buy those at a hardware store and do it yourself, but it may be best to call a plumber. Also, I didn't know this until just the other day (we were having drainage issues too but not as bad)....FH works in construction so he knows some stuff about....stuff like that....anyway, he said it's not good for pipes to keep getting Drano put in them. Every once in a while is ok, but watch not to overdo it, you can damage the pipes apparently. Who knew???

I hope they drain soon, that's the worst!

Thanks for the info!! FH is quite possibly the LEAST handy man alive...... so, I will leave the snaking up to the maintenance men!!!!

I will let him know about the draino stuff though, I never knew that!!!

Glad I could help, hopefully the snake works and its nothing too costly of a problem.

And I know, who would guess that about the drano? But it's true, ESPECIALLY w/older pipes, but true for all of them. Good Luck.

have you tried anything stronger. i have a stronger one that i buy in home depot. last time it got stopped up i have to get a snake in and that didn't work so the plumber had to snake it. i now have to use a drain guard since so much of my hair clogs the drain. good luck

I have not tried anything stronger. Maybe I should go to mantown (i.e. Home Depot) and look into it!!

ugh i think MY fh takes the cake in the least handy depart! All of our new furniture ... guess who put it together? Thats right! Me!

we just had major drainage issues (yes after 1 week in our new place) but it was b/c we live in the lower half of a split and there is a pump which controls all of the water ... the motor was blown in the pump and we didnt know it until all of a sudden, there was water everywhere (nasty water )

do you think you have a pump issue? if you have a pump that is? what kind of apartment do you live in?

We live in a complex, there is someone upstairs, and, there are a total of 14 (I think) apartments in my building.

I don't even know if we have a pump!

This does happen from time to time, but, Liquid Plummer has always done the trick!!!

ok i looked in the bathroom. the stronger stuff i used that can be bought at home depot is pequa. but when in doubt and drano is not working call maintenance. my maintenance is my dad or fh and when they couldn't fix it i had to get a plumber.

hmmm if you arent in like a basement or bottom of a split, it probably isnt a pump issue

maybe limescale buildup or maybe a squirrel crawled up your drain and got stuck?

i would call maintenance, the snaking should help! does the cover over the drain unscrew or lift? sometimes they dont look like they do, but they do?
