hey ladies. I'm writing a paper on reading based learning disabilities (probably specifically dyslexia). Basically my prof just wants us to research a subject and present the info, I don't need to format a thesis. Anyway, I'm having trouble getting started and finding good on-line sources. Does anybody have any good, credible websites they can point me to?
I'm looking for anything - what causes these issues, what the signs are, what the repercussions can be for those who have them, how they can be treated or worked with, etc, etc, etc. Anything you can do would get my started! Thanks

Re: nwr: dyslexia/learning disabilities?
I just did a search for 'dyslexia' and this came up:
Sorry! Don't know much about it, but this site looked informative! Good luck!
thanks! that will be very useful.
I did some googling too, but I just kind of suck at research, and I never know what's worth looking at and what's just crap.

Also check out webMD.com... lots of good info there.
ah, I didn't even think of webmd! I think of them more as medical problems... but you're probably right, they have a lot of links to good articles.

If you have a library card...go on to their website and look at their online databases that are accessible from home. You log in with your library barcode on the back of your card. You will find many full text articles from different periodicals that are available to you. Good Luck!

I would also not use google for something like this. Try www.ask.com. It is a much better search engine for technical informative searches.

These are all good...i used them when i had to do a presentation on dyslexia. The Book by Davis however, is controversial so be careful with what you quote from it. I mainly used it to compare and contrast with other professionals; since his book was the complete opposite. Good Luck

You are absolutely right. I really just thought it was an interesting perspective despite the fact that I only agree with about 40% of it.

Re: nwr: dyslexia/learning disabilities?
the primary type of dyslexia is a core phonological disorder. this is when students struggle to develop sound symbol relationships. Look this up and you may get some good info.
