NWR: Fall/Winter Coats/Fashion Advice in General

Hey ladies,

This time of year, I usually get excited about Fall and Winter clothes. I used to get more excited before I started teaching...for some reason, I just don't know how to buy clothes that look professional/appropriate for work and are flattering at the same time. I teach in a pretty wealthy area, and the students and teachers and community all dress so well...Most of them can afford to better than I can, and some of my kids said I should be on What Not To Wear (though I don't think I'm quite THAT bad) Any advice for where to shop for stuff that's flattering yet inexpensive? I'm petite and flat-chested with decent-sized hips, so usually my waist gets lost in my clothing, and regular pants are often too long while short sizes tend to be a smidge too short.

Even any advice in general for staple wardrobe items to look for or alterations or anything like that would be a big help!

Also, I usually look through the Victoria's Secret catalogue at their jackets and coats...but sometimes when things arrive, I'm not as crazy about how they fit me (compared to the models, of course). Any advice on somewhere I could go in person to find an awesome jacket or winter coat?

TIA!! :)
