I am in the process of looking for a house and just wondering if anyone lives in Farmingdale. We have broadened that to be part of our search since the houses in Massapequa are going like hot cakes.
What are the best elementary schools in this district? I have looked at the best schools website but sometimes you can get more of a feel actually living there. It seems like Woodward is the nicest from greatschools.com but I'm just curious.
Thanks for any help!!!

I'm not 100% sure how true this is but I heard that plainedge is a better district and there are some homes in farmingdale zoned for that district. HTH!

anywhere in massapequa with farmingdale schools have much lower home prices because the farmingdale school district isn't very good. I'd be weary about buying in farmingdale or in a town zoned for farmingdale schools because it can really affect the resale value of your home.
also be sure to avoid areas of massapequa with amityville schools. Plainedge and Massapequa are the best school districts. Both are about equal in how good they are, but plainedge is much smaller, which many prefer. It is really about preference though. Those who went to plainedge swear it's the better school, but you'll hear the same from massapequa HS graduates too

Oh I know it's better, but homes aren't really available (within our budget) and the ones that are, are getting bought really quickly. We've been looking since April. I was just curious about the Farmingdale schools and elementary schools.

what about bellmore/merrick? JFK and Calhoun are great schools, and the area is about the same price range as most of massapequa

Thanks for the help though.

We're in the same boat! We LOVE Pequa, but the only affordable homes around are serious fixer uppers - we've recently started looking into F'dale as well. Tough market. We are 4th of July-ers as well (2013)!

We are looking to buy in Farmingdale and I haven't heard any bad things about the school districts there. Plainedge is a lil better then Farmingdale but the taxes are higher. Farmingdale is just a big school district like Massapequa. We had no luck in Massapequa. The ones we loved that were in our price range went fast & the rest were major fixer uppers.

Yea I know. I grew up in Massapequa and would love to stay here. I love this town. But it's really discouraging. And the amount they want for the fixer uppers is kind of insane.
And we thought the same about the taxes in plainedge. It's like nearly 5k more! That adds up!!!

I live in Farmingdale and the schools were great. I graduated 54 in my class of 395 in Farmingdale High school. I went to Woodward Parkway Elementary school and Howitt Middle school.
I'm not sure where people are hearing that Farmingdale schools aren't good, because that is just wrong.

The elementary schools are: Woodward Parkway Saltzman EAst Memorial Albany Avenue Northside
I would say they are all good, but Northside is the lowest on that list. Woodward and Albany Ave would be the top. All my friends went to either woodward or Albany ave.

Farmingdale is a very mixed bag--not as culturally homogeneous as all these other districts....And by that I mean lets face it---the district has kids from N. Amityville, Massapequa Park, N. Massapequa, South Farmingdale and Farmingdale Village. Maybe that's why people think they schools aren't 'as good'. I think its vast diversity is a strength.
P.S. I find it funny that Northside is considered lowest on the list when THE MOST EXPENSIVE (half a million and up)homes in Farmingdale Village happen to send all their kids there, that is if they're not enrolled in private school.

i'm not knocking farmingdale, i have many friends who live there. The home prices are in fact much lower than 'pequa though, and resale value of farmingdale homes is also lower in areas of 'pequa with farmingdale schools. If comparing plainedge, massapequa, and farmingdale, farmingdale would be the lowest of the three statistics-wise. Any realtor would tell you that the lowest home prices of those three would be the homes in the f'dale district. Not saying it's terrible, but not as good as the plainedge and massapequa stats.
To say it's not very good is misleading, it's not at the bottom of the list, that is what one would think when reading your comment.

sorry you felt i had poor delivery- like i said in the beginning, i was clearly referring to school districts that massapequa homes are zoned for and said to avoid f'dale and amityville because buying a home in those two districts in massapequa can affect the resale value, which is 100% factual. again, not knocking farmingdale whatsoever, just listing the facts.

Farmingdale is part of 3 school districts. It depends on where the home is. Farmingdale residents are in either Farmingdale, Amityville or Half Hollow Hills.
Each district has their pros and cons. Half Hollow Hills is one of the BEST districts on the island, but the taxes in that area are generally high. The elementary schools would depend on what district the house is zoned for!

It's not part of three districts. No one in Farmingdale goes to Amityville Schools, I assure you that. Some Parts of N. Amityville attend Farmingdale schools, just like some parts of N. Massapequa & Massapequa Park attend FARMINGDALE SCHOOLS.
The small portion that attends Half Hollow Hills is by Farmingdale College and that is no longer part of Nassau County or the Town of Oyster Bay.
IF you're looking for homes anywhere in Nassau County, you can easily check the district by going to 'www.mynassauproperty.com' and it will tell you what district you are in. Also, it gives you an idea of what the property taxes are for that Home. And OH from a former employee who worked in the Property Tax Dept---try to stay away from areas that are 'incorporated' their taxes are generally higher AND ALWAYS IN ADDITION to County and School taxes.
Not that you asked, but IMO what happens and is taught at home is almost always MORE important that what school district you grew up in or the resale value of your home.
