I have been feeling pretty gross lately because we have been eating out a lot and a bunch of people recommended that I fast for a day. I guess some of my friends do it one day a week and said its great.
Anyone else do this? Does fasting help?

Definetly skip the fasting, you'll feel even worse. I know exactly how you feel. Just try to eat lighter and healthier, include a bunch of fruit and veggies and you will start to feel better.

i say eat more vegitables and try to drink a lot more water - have 8-10 glasses it makes you feel better - fastingis tough on your metabolism and can slow it down over time

in WW they say that you might lose the in the first two weeks doing that but then you will start gaining... plus its also unhealthy to mess with nutrition

I wouldn't do the fasting thing...It doesn't make you feel better just more hungry! ANd usually then you eat more! Try exercising, that always makes me feel better about myself

I know the feeling of wanting to fast but trust me, if you do, you will feel hungrier the next day...eat salads and vegetables....and drink a lot of water

Fasting is a good way to clean out the system. The key to fasting is drinking lots of water. It's not easy to do though because you will feel hungry the first time you do it. My stepfather has to do it for a whole month (he is muslim and celebrates Ramadan).

OMG, I couldn't imagine fasting for a day never mind a whole month! I know the feeling, but I don't think it's a good idea especially when you've been eating a lot. I know with myself, the more I eat, the hungrier I am the next morning. I agree with all the other tips that the girls gave you. Good luck! When all else fails: Weight Watchers. I recommend it highly. I eat what I want in moderation of course. I don't buy into all that low carb stuff.

I was responding to this posting about fasting for a month. I'm not criticizing or anything, I know it must take a lot of will power and determintation. I'm just saying I don't have that.

Re: NWR --- Fasting?
Please do not fast.....
As many of you know, I have IBS.. well a couple of years back my symptoms were so horrible that I lost about 20 pounds in less than a month (and I was already at my target BMI). My symptoms kept on at that intensity for nearly a year. I was either so scared of my IBS acting up that I wouldn't eat or I would eat and it would act up right away. I was a wreck.
I am still continuing to see/feel the effects that year. When you fast or starve yourself, your body starts attacking itself for the nutrition it needs to survive. It throws your metabolism completely off. Mine still has not completely recovered.
This is not something to play with.

I was just thinking that. How fasting isn't good for dieting, but some peopel do it for religous reasons.
I don't know if I could do that. For Ramadan you can eat at certain times, right? Its not completely no food for a month is it?

Yes, you can eat from sunset to sunrise. You cannot eat during the day. LOL! No food for a month would kill you. Fasting for one day doesn't do anything bad to the human body.
