NWR: Favorite horror novels?

NWR: Favorite horror novels?

This is totally random, but I’m working on my novel and I’ve decided to go done the horror route…more like The Terror by Dan Simmons than anything else, which is a horror historical fiction.

Anywho, FH and I have been bouncing back and forth off each other about what books really creeped us out and why and I think I’ve drained him dry, lol. Anyone want to share what books made them scared to turn off the light? If you could pinpoint why, that’s even better!

sorry I'm a wussy and don't read horror novels because then I can't sleep at night. But it's really cool that you're writing a novel, is this what you do for a living or is for fun?

Ehh…I would say like an eighth living, mostly fun, lol. I’ve had a lot of poetry published, and now I’m trying to break into something meatier and more accessible. Plus I’ll probably have plenty of unemployment time when I first get to Sweden, so major writing time!

Yeah, I’m just finishing up Lisey’s Story (which I think is his latest?), but The Shining terrified me something awful. Can you remember what really got under your skin?

Actually Misery really stuck with me the most. It was the WORST.....I WOULD NOT get up to shut the light off. Something about being handcuffed and helpless freaked me out...then finding out there may be something in the room with you....ACK!
That's the worst.

Ghost stories are great too......

love horror novels! big King fan.... Pet Semetary got to me....

though a book that terrified me oddly enough was jurassic park and the lost world.... weird huh? I found those books quite frightening if youve read them, you know the part with the little girl on the beach?? and i believe a baby crib.... i wont go into details, but the jurassic park books were far more terrifying than the movies..... that ramble probably doesnt help you, lol

i find the ghost stories that are slightly plausible are the most chilling.... Poltergeist LOVE Love love it....

Good luck!
