NWR: FH's on motorcycles...........

NWR: FH's on motorcycles...........

So my FH just joined a motorcycle class that youre required to be a part of in order to get your motorcycle license here in Wisconsin.
I HATE motorcycles because of how dangerous they can be. I really dont want him to get his license but hes going anyway. I mean, I would never tell him not to do something he really wants to do but he knows how much I dont want him to. (his mother is really against this also)

I guess im just looking for someone to put my mind at ease because I feel like theyre so dangerous and I just dont want anything to happen to him. How many ladies out there have FH's with motorcycles? Or even ride motorcycles themselves??

My FH is DYING to get one. I told him 'no' but he still talks about getting one. i told him we'll get a classic car that he can fix up. It'll keep him busy for a while.

So is my FH. He said 'you get the car if i fix it up, and i'll get a bike' he wants to go for his license on it.

It scares me because yesterday coming from Broadway Mall on the Northern State, a biker on a little sports bike flew RIGHT past us. And Justin said 'those are the guys who make it hard on the good guys like me!'

I know my FH will be safe, but it's the other idiots in CARS or trucks that I'm scared of!! or A stupid bump/pothole in the road!!!

This is exactly how I feel! My FH is not really a 'risk taker' when it comes to things like this but its usually the other people on the road that makes it so dangerous, cause you never know what theyre gonna do, no matter how responsible youre being on your bike.

Also, my dad almost died in a motor cycle accident before I was born and I think this kinda weighs heavy on me in the back of my mind when it comes to FH getting a bike.

Ouch!! definitely feel you on that one!!! i'm terrified of when he just drives in a car.. home alone sometimes, or if I'm out and he has to pick me up really late... the past few years i've gotten really sketchy with cars.. and I don't know why.. I lost my father in a car accident but just ALL of a sudden i've gotten paranoid! and bikes are just 10 times worse.. you only got 2 wheels!!!!!!! and you're not belted in or protected by anything!!!!!! lol i can totally see where you're coming from.. stupid bikes... i wish they're make them illegal.. jk.. lol i love the sound of harleys.. lol

I already told FH he is not getting on a motorcycle. His parents and his brother ride, and I know he wants to ride to be closer to them but I cant stomach all that anxiety.

On our way to a showcase at Eastwind last fall, me and my mom witnesses a horrific motorcycle accident. The guy didnt make it. I was against them before then and that just made it a billion times worse.

FH got a motorcycle when we first dated. Of course I was against the idea but didn't say much since it was just the beginning of our relationship. Eventually the bike grew on me and we even went out riding together. Then my worst nightmare happened. He got into an accident, totaled the bike and ended up in the hospital. He was on his way to pick me up to go riding. When I saw him at the hospital he told me that all he could think about was if I was on the back because I probably wouldn't have survived the crasg - and then he cried and promised to sell the bike. Luckily he only ended up with a few broken ribs. Its amazing that he was okay - his beautiful new bike was TOTALED. I couldn't even look at it because the bike looked that bad and all I could think was how lucky he was to be ok. It was really really really horrible. If FH does get one please don't be stupid like me and DO NOT go on it. To be honest - it was fun, and it was a rush, but its not worth it. Sometimes you think you are invisible but when you see someone you love get hurt you realize that it could happen to you or someone you know. And if something did happen FH would never forgive himself. Sorry this probably isn't what you wanted to hear :(

Re: NWR: FH's on motorcycles...........

I have always been scared of motorcycles. My ex-boyfriend rode a motorcycle and even owned his own motorcycle shop. He has been riding forever and really knows how to drive well. He was hit and killed on Halloween night. My fh had a harley before he met me and I was so glad he no longer had it when we began dating. He claims that he is going to get another one. Ever since my ex's accident I keep telling him I don't want him on one. It's bad enough that he has a job I get nervous about. I always say to him there are so many other ways to get hurt why add something else.

They scare the shiiiiiiiiit out of me, especially those race bikes.

my FH used to have a bike... he actually still has it, but its broken now and is working on fixing it up to sell - i felt the same way all you girls do... FH was ALWAYS a safe rider, but its all those other crazies out there!!!

FH got into a bad accident a few years ago (before we were together) but thank god he's okay!! i loved riding it with him, but to be honest part of me is REALLY glad he's getting rid of it!!

We both have ours, and we took the class together, why not go to the class one day so you see how good they really teach you? They really teach you EVERYTHING you could think of, if theres something in the road, to how to fall correctly god forbid something happens, what to wear etc.

And if your still not comfortable with him riding, why not ask him to only ride when its light out, and tell him to please keep his head lamp on, even when its bright out, so cars see you that much better. HTH

motorcycle riding is such an incredible risk. i cant tell you how many times the 30 year old male comes into the ER after a motorcycle accident, and you reallllly dont want to know the most common outcome .

i do feel that motorcycles can be ridden relatively safely for fun, like along ocean parkway without speeding or weaving around traffic. But if anyones FH is the type to ride between cars lanes and what have you.....please encourage them to stop. this pisses my FH off so much, he regular tries to squeeze them in when they do that.

Re: NWR: FH's on motorcycles...........

my first car accident was with a guy on a motorcycle.. i was coming home from the greekfest (large beach party for african american greek sororities/gfraternities) the wantagh was PACKED bumper to bumper traffic and this dude comesby doing over a hundred n the middle lane.. someone in the left lane came over on him so he came over into the right lane to avoid being hit and hit my car.. flew off the front and rolled bout 30 ft in front of my car as i am driving towards him and almost hit him. his bike rolled off the road and hit a tree and he wound up on the shoulder.. when the cops came he gave them his story.. that he moved into the right lane (my lane) to avoid getting hit on the left and he hit a red car (my car) he had neck injuries, back injuries and couldn't walk.. a fellow biker told the cops the guy that hit me must have been doing 120 cause HE (witness) was doing 100 and got passed by him.

the kicker.. u ready for this.. wait for it..... wait for it....

2 yrs later he sued MY insurance saying i hit him.. didn't get a penny but i spent months in court going through depositions and trials.. i know every motorcycle rider isn't like tis guy, and i personally think its sexy for a woman to ride a motorcycle.. but i will never get on one ad neither will fh.. nope not happening..

Re: NWR: FH's on motorcycles...........

My ex had one and he flew off of it but didn't get hurt badly...I know others who did the same but luckily didn't get hurt that badly, well the ones i know well at least. One time i had seen an accident so bad i seriously still get traumatized thinking about it...it was bumper to bumper traffic, and we were in the right lane, then we see cop cars and a bunch of ppl on the shoulder, well bc of that was the traffic and now my friends and i are stopped right next to the accident, i said hmmmm i dont see any cars what happened, i was in the passenger seat, looked over and then on to the ground, i really don't even want to say all the details of what i saw but only that i had seent he arm first and was like W** and then saw the body a little further away, even talking about it now i get all emotional

The problem with some ppl is that once they see in the beginning they can handle it they think they're pros and can do whatever but it takes time to really get comfortable...turns are not easy, you have to turn your body into it too.

Its hard bc anything can throw you off, if you hit bumps, bad roads. And motorcycles are like cars, doesn't matter how good you are, anything can happen, someone else can cause it. Also theres been so many times im driving and all of a sudden i see a bike fly by me and i didnt even hear it. Alot of ppl insist on getting the silent exhausts for some reason, when i think ppl should get the loud exhausts to let others know you're coming.

I had a boyfriend for 3 years that was killed on his motorcycle. It was really traumatizing for me, his family, friends and my family. He was in a coma for a week before he succumbed to his injuries. He was swerving out of the way of a pedestrian and lost control of his bike. They are so dangerous and pointless to me.
