NWR: Fiance turning 40 need ideas for gift and place to eat!

My fiance turns 40 this weekend.

Any suggestions of a restaurant we can go for dinner with his friends? A fun place, with drinks and good food. Not too fancy but still classy enough. Any suggestions are most welcome!!

I also have literally no idea what to get him, any ideas? I was thinking of one of those video game things people play with the bowling and tennis etc but have no idea of price etc. Do you know if they have a golf one??

Thanks!!!

there's a great place in union sq. called Max Brenner. its a chocolate lovers dream come true!!

that game system is nintendo wii. it runs from 250 and up depending on the # of accessories you get for it. it comes with 1 wii remote & 1 wii nun chuck. you can also download old NES, N64, Sega and Genesis games. (you'll need an add't remote for them, called the classic controller). if you have game cube the games or controllers are compatible. i bought FH all of the following last year and it was about 550: wii system, add't remote, add't nun chuck, 2 classic controllers, a remote charger, a carrying bag and a game called 'wii play' (has 10 different games like pool, ping pool, fishing, etc)

the system comes with a game called 'wii sports' it has tennis, bowling, boxing, baseball and golf on it.

I don't know anything really. He wants Rosa Mexicano but I just don't think it's that great so maybe something along those lines. I also thought of Tao but the reservations are booked out.

What abou Dos Caminos? There are a few Rosa Mexicano locations.
If you want to venture to the East Village, there is an amazing Mexican Restaurant called La Palapa that has a fantastic back room with a table that can fit around 20 people. I know the owners and they do not charge extra for the room.....

They will allow you to bring in your own cake and they were voted Citysearch NY's best margarita....

I had my 30th bday party there and it was fantastic. The private room is great.http://www.lapalapa.com/

Another great place that is fantastic for Groups is ALTA. It's Tapas and delicious. When we went there for my friend's bday, Ethan Hawke was across from us. They have this option called 'the whole shebang' where you can order the entire menu for $300.... It's delicious!

yeah tao you need to book ahead of time. They will have reservations left about a week before but very late ones.

If he wants mexican, would he like dos caminos maybe. But hmmmm i agree about trying other places.

Buddha bar is nice too but the food isnt as great and the portions are tiny

IF YOU want to stay with the asian fusion theme, there is also ninja and you would get your own private room...well everybody has a private room. its VERY different than most dining experiences. They take you through a bridge, they have ninja magicians do cool things with the food and other surprises

here is the site for ninja. Can get pretty pricey

we went to buddakan for my 30th last year and it was AMAZING. Beautiful place, good food, really nice for a special occasion.

one of my faves that fh and i went when we first started dates was l'impero - not sure if it's still there, but I hear Alto is really good too. These are more low-key and romantic; buddakan is more sceney

Another great 'standby' for Asian Fusion is China Grill. I've never had a bad meal there and it's great for groups....
