NWR: first vet visit

NWR: first vet visit

so we just got our puppy and we wanted to go to the vet to get him checked out and get flea, tick, and heart worm medicine. when we got there, they say that we should get this vaccine that our breeder told us not to get (corona, because it kills shih tzu's) we decided to hold off on it... i just wanted to do some research and think it over, and they gave us such an attitude! they made me feel like an idiot and she went on and on about how breeders don't go to 8 years of vet school like she did. i'm not saying that, but nothing for nothing, but at vet school you learn about all different animals, where my breeder knows shih tzu's in and out as she has been breeding for 25+ years!

so now i'm upset, and don't really know what to do. i called my breeder and she said don't vaccinate until 16 weeks, but i'm nervous that he's susceptible to these viruses! and now when we go back to the vet they will charge us $25 just to walk in the door plus the price of the vaccine because its a separate appointment.

ugh! I know the feeling.
We got a new puppy also and we have been goign to the vet once a week since we got him! its like my 2nd home, when i leave im like see ya next week! everone laughs but im getting pi$$ed. the store we got him from recommends this vet and in return he gives us certain things as part of out contract, well sometimes i feel this vet is a joke. hes a holistic vet...what is that>?? i dont even go to a holistic doc...just give me the med i need to get me better. anyway the puppy had a cold and caugh and gave us all these vitamins and herbs and he wasnt better so we took him to a diff doc who gave him amoxicilan and then back to the free doc who gave him one more thing on top of the other 3 thngs we were alread giving him! UGH! these vets!!! anyways tom is out weekly visit...hopfull hes better...hes playing alot more and not caughing as much but hes not eating very much so we will see....I know how you feel!

Did she say dont start to vaccinate until 16 weeks or dont vaccinate for corona until 16 weeks?
Puppies should start getting vaccines at 6 weeks and receive boosters every 3 weeks until 16 weeks. As long as you start and then do the boosters, your pup will be just fine

Re: NWR: first vet visit

I have to tell you that I took my pup for his year and a half check up - he's a 5 pound maltese and he need his rabies shot along with 3 other ones. Many people told me not to do them all together because it can make them very sick, I went to my vet which I've been using for over 15 years and he said that it's absolutely fine to give them all together.

WELL...I came home and Max was throwing up all over the place, completely lethargic and shaking like a leaf - I don't think he ate for 2 whole days.

I called the vet right away and they told me maybe he got car sick...ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!

So def. go with your gut - if trust the breeder being that she knows the dogs inside and out then go with what she is telling you, or go to another vet and get a second opinion. Good Luck with your new addition! And even if he costs you a little more money in the beginning it's better off than having a really bad mistake
