High school and love it. This is a stressful year for me because I have to prepare my students for the Global Studies Regents for the first time in 5 years!

I know hat you mean. I have to prepare my 11th graders for the English Regents, and then at the end of the year I have to prepare them for Us. History, and Govt.
I also have 9th graders, so I have to help them for Earth Science

I went to Hofstra for my bachelor in ed. and I got my masters at Brooklyn College in early childhood. Now I am going for administration at Brooklyn too. It is a good school but not overwhelming.

You should check out Queens college for their education program. They are reasonable with their tuition, and the program is supposed to be good. I got my MA in elementary ed. from St. John's and the tuition there is crazy. I would have gone to Queens college, but I applied too late. Good luck! Any questions you can FM me.

i finished my master's in education over the summer at queen's college & highly recommend it. great professors, quick program, & you can't beat the price. i did not even consider hofstra or post or dowling since i have undergrad loans. definitely look into queen's college. by the way, i would NOT recommend hofstra based on the opinions of many of my co-workers who went there for their master's. but check out all your options!

Thrilled - Something else to consider if you don't like your current job... Often if you work at a particular university you can take classes for very very cheap. I work at Harvard, I am applying to the Masters of Education program for next year in Higher Ed Administration (wish me luck!), it will cost me 10% of tuition to attend part time while I still collect my regular salary (If I get in that is!). I'm sure some NY colleges offer a similar deal. Definately something to think about.

Adelphi does that, if you work for the school you either dont pay tuition or pay a small amount of tuition.

Thanks for all the advice guys! I am a bit overwhelmed with all the choices out there - but it would seem that my first order of business needs to be brushing up on my Spanish to required proficiency levels. Plus, my wedding is Sept 6, 2003....and I'm worried about starting a program right then....

My mom and my fiance both go or went to Queens college. My mom is an assistant principal and my fiancee is a HS Social Studies teacher. They both rave about the school.

I teach 4th grade... 5 weeks until the ELA test!! I go to Stony Brook for my MA. It's affordable and close to home.

I just graduated from Hofstra with a Masters degree in Elem. Education. I can't wait to start teaching....I love the little ones and I am currently looking for a FT teaching position. HOfstra has an excellent education program, but it is very $$$$. I could have saved a lot of $ by going to Queens college ( I hear they have a very good program there too) but I did not want to commute. Hofstra was only 10 min from my house.

I attend Molloy College in RVC (Masters in Elem and Spec Ed) It is $$$ but I hear they have a great reputation in Long Island school districts.

Hey - My best friend got her masters in education and i actually took some courses towards my MA a few years ago when I thought I might make the switch from corprate world to the classroom. Just a few things to consider - if you didn't major in education in undergrad there may be some courses you will have to take before begining your MA. However, Fordham University has a year long program that offers all necessary classes and gets you into the classroom and your MA in that one year. It is very expensive but it is a great program and gets you ready to teach in one year. Sometimes people prefer to do it in one intensive year rather then over a few years part time. Just wanted to let you know.

I majored in history, not education, as an undergrad and had no problems with coursework as a graduate student. However, I'm a secondary school teacher and sometimes it is better to major in your area of specialty (ie. history, math) rather than in education. I do not know what you need as an elementary school educator.
