NWR: For girls who live in LI and work in Manhattan
Where in LI do you live and where do you work? I'm not asking for the name of your employer, but the area (for example, times square, wall street, etc.) And how long does it take you to commute door to door?
The reason I'm asking is because I live in Queens now but will be moving to LI once we buy a house. I look up the train schedules on the LIRR website but I'm just curious about how long commutes realistically take.

I used to live in Valley Stream and it would take me 30-40 mins to get into Penn Station, depending on which train I took.

I live in East Rockaway (western Nassau County) and when I went to school at NYU it was one hour door to door... not too bad! Look at places in Valley Stream, Lynbrook, East Rockaway, Malverne... they are close to Queens/Manhattan and a shorter train ride.

My commute is ridiculous. I live in Eastern Suffolk (Ronkonkoma) and work on Lexington between 46th and 47th. It takes 2 hours door to door. About 1 hour and 20 minutes of that on LIRR. Thank God I will be moving soon, hopefully.
Just keep in mind if you take the LIRR and work on the East side it adds to your commute. I add about 20 minutes each way having to get from where I work to Penn Station.

I live in Long Beach and work in Tribeca.
It's about 1:45 door to door without any delays. A typical day it's 2 hours. It kinda blows.
good luck!!

I live in Valley Stream and its around the same time..
When I get to Penn I walk to midtown (rockefellar center) where I work - a 20 minute walk.

Same here!!! I then added a 1.5 mile walk straight across town to the east river (murry hill) area.
Now I live in Copiague and the train is about an hour with the same walk. - the other option, besides the walk, is the bus which takes just as long.

i live in seaford and used to work on 45th and 5th.. i'd take a 6:56am express train and i'd be at work by 8:15am (i also took a subway once i reached penn though). Again this was express... probably tack on another 20-30 minutes if it was local.

I live in Bay Shore and work on Third Ave between 51 and 52 St. 90 mins. Bay Shore is an express stop. I'm on the 6:20 train next stop Jamaica, take the E train to 53 St and Lexington. If I am on the local E add 15 more mins.

Takes me 1 hr door to door from rvc to mid-town. The train to RVC is great usually 35 min (at most!). It takes almost as long to navigate the E train from Penn which totally *****.

I live in Queens to but thought I would help...I used to work in Manhasset and would go to the city on the LIRR, it would take about 30-35 minutes during rush hour. So I guess this would be for Western nassau in general. Great neck, slightly less, say Mineola/Garden City area, slightly more.

I live in Great Neck and work on 59th & Park. It takes about an hour door to door. To get to Penn Station is only 30mins, but getting to the east side is a pain.

I live in NHP and work on Wall Street and it would take me 45 -50 minutes door to door including subway. The further out east you go the longer the commute will be.

Re: NWR: For girls who live in LI and work in Manhattan
When I lived in Bethpage, it took 10 minutes to drive to the train, wait on the platform for 5 (because you don't want to be that person always running for the train), 50 minute ride, 20 minute walk from Penn to the Murray Hill area.
When I moved to Massapequa, it was almost the same except it was a 15 minute drive, I waited on the platform for 10 minutes because sometimes there were no seats, and the walk was the same.
It really depends where you move to. The south shore (Babylon) line has way more trains than the Ronkonkoma line. But if you get a stop before Hickville, you can also get on a Port Jefferson line which doubles up the amount of train to Mineola and Hicksville. You can almost always expect delays for your commute home.
Some of the other lines, like the ones to Long Beach and Roslyn, don't come as frequently and may involve having to transfer at Jamaica.
Re: NWR: For girls who live in LI and work in Manhattan
Thanks girls, this has been very helpful. We like the Babylon area and the towns on that train line but going west (Wantagh, Seaford).
I live in Astoria now and believe it or not, it takes me an hour each way to get to work (downtown Manhattan). Hopefully the commute from LI shouldn't be too much of an adjustment.
