My mom was telling me one of her girlfriends sons works in a bank and they get lists of foreclosures and short sales before anyone else.
does anyone know if thats true ??
and if they give those lists to the public ??

foreclosures are considered public information. you can call a bank & ask for their foreclosure list

Just wanted to let you know that Short Sales take a very long time. My sister and her husband have been in the process since August and they still aren't in!

Don't get me wrong, it is totally worth it for the prices you can get some short sales for but just wanted to give you a heads up on the lengthy process!

Additionally, if you are looking to get the first time homebuyer credit, or an FHA mortgage - the shortsales and foreclosures might not apply.
eta: a shortsale is a house that is in the process of going to foreclosure and the bank wants to sell the house before it goes into foreclosure, the homeowners still own the home at this point. A forclosure is a house whereby the homeowners defaulted on their mortgage and the bank now owns the home.
as an attorney who occasionally handles short sales from the bank's end... make sure you research it thoroughly and i would strongly recommend that you get your own attorney if you're going this route. it can get complicated. feel free to FM me if you have any questions!
