NWR - Gas bills
I am curious how much people pay for gas per month in the winter. We just moved into a small one bedroom and the gas bill for the first month was $100. We hardly ever put the heat on, so this seems really high to me. I called National Grid and they said thats normal, even for a really small apartment. Does this sound right? Thanks!

during the winter we get hit bad because I hate being cold so I always put it up high. We went on a budget plan so we know how much it's going to be every month. For our house it's $80 but it's also $80 during the summer so you have to figure out if it might be better to know how much it's def. going to be each month or pay extra now and know it will be less in the summer

my gas bill with national grid is $17 a month. which is only for using our stove and oven. they are not allowed to charge us for heat in my apartment.it's just my FH and I.

Re: NWR - Gas bills
Did they charge you a set up fee? When I bought my house I believe they charged me a fee the first month.

We live in a one bedroom apartment in a fairfields and we pay 67 bucks a month...make sure its not for two months. Depending on your plan you can pay every two months or every month..

It could also be an estimated bill, which means it has nothing to do with how much gas you used. They estimate it, and then at the next reading it will be corrected. We frequently go from bills over $150 to bills for around $10. Our first bill in our new house was over $200 and it was estimated.

Thanks ladies. It was based on actual usage, so I don't think there will be a 'corrected' bill unfortunately. I guess I'm just used to hearing people on the balanced plans. Hopefully it will go wayyy down in the summer. It just amazes me how much heat can cost for a teeny tiny apartment.

Re: NWR - Gas bills
depends on where you live and how much your landlord contributes. i own my own small house in melville and we pay $75 per month for gas. we have a gas stove and a gas boiler. the house is only 1000 square feet. we also have balanced billing so we pay $75 per month no matter what (e.g. even in the summer when we aren't using the boiler as much, heater, etc.)

Re: NWR - Gas bills
This kind of seems like a lot to me. Our average this winter with natural gas has been $70 a month. Ours is estimated but when they came to read it that's what it came out to be.Now we also had the NY State energy audit and some extra insulation put in so that probably helps, but when we bought the house they told us approx $100/month, and it's a 3 bedroom house with the finished basement to heat. For a one bedroom that definitely seems high! Can you read the meter yourself and see what's going on?

Re: NWR - Gas bills
In the past 60 days I spent over $1,000 on OIL... we just converted to GAS so I would be very happy with $100 each month! LOLWhen I was in a one bedroom appartment my bills about $75-$100/ month on average. It's been a VERY cold January-February so they should start to go down.
