NWR- General 'friends' question

So I went out to dinner with FH last nite and we were talking about our friends and how we lost touch with people over the years. We both have a decent amount of friends and at this point I consider his friends mine and vice versa. I told him I was thinking a lot lately of old friendships and how I was friends with different people over the years and that maybe if I made more of an effort with some of them I would still be friends. He said that there is a reason why I'm not friends with them and they could have made the effort too which is definitely true. I mean I consider most of them aquantances but not close friends. I guess I feel that it's hard to stay close with so many people over the years too. I guess I just wanted to get other peoples opinions on this subject too...does anyone regret not staying in touch with some people or do you feel that there is a reason why your not friends with them now and that you are friends with the people you are supposed to be friends with? I'm just curious. Thanks.

i think about this too sometimes. with my personal experience, the friends that i am not friends with anymore, there are definately reasons and not just 'its not meant to be' type of reasons, if that makes sense. I know you were asking more about the 'whats meant to be will be' and with some people, there were opportunities for us to become close again and i just feel like we lost touch or even purposely stopped talking for a reason. It sounds corny but i think people come into your life for a reason even if its only for a short time and even if its to teach you or show you something about other people and when their purpose is done, they might drop out of your life. I believe the same goes for friends who are still around, they are still around because it is meant to be.

i have a few close friends who i have sort of lost touch with in the past few years just bc we are in different places in our lives and living in different areas. It makes me sad when I think about it but at the same time I know that is part of life.

I've been feeling the same way lately...
At this point most of my friends are the girlfriends/fiances/wives of my FH.
I was friends with a bunch of girls in college that I no longer speak to. I was dating a jerk, they told me he was cheating on me, I refused to believe- which drove us apart. I had to figure things out the hard way. A part of me want to reach out to them (via facebook?), but a part of me says don't bother cuz they're up in Buffalo.
I still haven't decided what I'm going to do.

ITA!! Thankfully, we can still stay in touch with the internet and stuff like that. but i do miss the daily calls and gossip. one of my old friends invited me to her wedding, and i am so happy to go and see her on her special day (i posted about her before when i got the bridal shower invite)...but at the same time it really hurts to go knowing that we are not as close anymore. she was like my bff

I have only a few friends and those few who I've still stayed in contact with have been friends since childhood. FH is the same way and I've met one couple through him and now we're all friends. Yea, it would be nice to have more friends but honestly when I look back the friends I was friends with back then I have nothing in common with now. I def think some friendships are supposed to end and I've only had 2 friendships end on a sour note and when I think about it these girls were never friends to begin with I guess. Alot of my old friends the main thing we had in common and that kept us together was going out and partying and that was about it. I'm a homebody now and even friends I knew from HS there's really none I miss bc I'm a completely different person then I was then. I guess I have a hard time keeping in contact with people too but I'm not into internet sites, finding old people from my past. I guess I feel like they are in the past for a reason. I hope one day I make new friends from wherever but we'll see.

I always think about this. I'm the type of person who becomes really good friends with people, and years later even if i don't see u anymore, i still expect our relationship to be somewhat the same (which is retarded i know but it's me). It's kinda like.. 'once ur my friend ur my friend for life so tough' kinda deal.

There are 2-3 friends from elementary school who i'm super close with. Years go by every now and then when i don't talk to them but when i do it's as if nothing changed. I know that no matter what those 2-3 are my friends for life and consider me the same to them.
From HS i occasionally talk to 1-2 people and we always say, 'yeah we gotta meet up.' but we never do. Facebook obv. makes it easier to keep in touch with people but it's more of a superficial relationship rather then actual friendships.

The people i see on a normal basis are friends i've made in college. FH's friends wives/gf's are ok. I'm close with 1-2 of them but that's it. I'd rather play video games with the guys then sit around a table talking about baby and house stuff with the girls.

Friends come and go... guess it's a way of life.

(wow i wrote an essay!)

oh, and what s*ucks, if you were close to ANY guys back in the day.. now that they have gf's u lose contact with them cuz of their new gf. Stupid girls! lol

Its hard because you always wonder what if I did something different. I feel that things haopen for a reason. Sometimes people get busy and cant call everyday like they used to and u drift apart. I am with FH all the time so I see his friends girlfriends and wives alot but I will always have my few girlfriends that no matter what will always be ther.

The people who I lost touch with, I lost touch with for a reason. There are a few people who we didn't leave on bad terms or anything. However, we just grew apart.
