NWR: Girls I need your help......

NWR: Girls I need your help......

So remember how I posted about an interview at another agency a while ago that DH didn't think I should go on because I was already given a promotion at work????? Well I went on the interview, and I got the job!

But now I'm in the same conundrum that DH said I'd be in, lol. I have two amazing offers in front of me and don't know which to take:

1st offer:
Current agency
Multi-dimensional family therapy case manager (i.e. case work with substance abuse clients)
Small increase in salary
Free license training (worth $6K)
Same easy commute
Still lots of field work
Less growth opportunity - but the license eventually will give me higher credentials and the ability to do counseling

2nd offer:
Different agency
Therapeutic Foster Care Supervisor position (essentially my current boss' job)
Significant increase in salary
More office based - less field work
No license training
Longer commute
Paid parking

WWYD???????

Well, the higher salary sounds like a huge benefit. Would the license training eventually lead to a higher salary than what you could let at job # 2?
Also, how much longer is the commute?

as a social worker I'd take the 2nd choice. Is the license for your LMSW or LCSW? Do you have a problem with a decrease in time in the field?

My commute to my current agency is 10 minutes. The commute to the new one would be around a half hour.

It's for a CASAC license. I'm actually looking to decrease my time in the field. Kind of getting tired of the constant on-the-go.

so choice 2 is looking nice! IMO, 30 min vs. 10 min isn't that bad at all. I made the same commute time switch when I moved jobs from Jamaica (I could be to work in 10 minutes and that included time spend circling the block for parking) to Brooklyn (about 25-30 min...no parking issues).

Good luck and let us know what you decide.

I know its a hard choice to make...but #2 sounds like a pretty good deal.

just based on the fact that i remember you saying how excited you were over the idea of not having as much field work, i'd def. go for job 2. that being said, i don't know much about the SW community, so i don't know how helpful my opinion is!

Definitely #2 because of the higher salary and less field work.

I would pick #2 as well.

Definatly the second one..I would most defintly go where the money was!

Congratulations on getting the job..even if you have to make this decision, it shows you're a truly desirable candidate!

Ok, with the expanded information you gave us I'd say number 2.

hearing you say that you want less feild work and one day your gunna have kids and not gunna want to go in the filed.

that drive to work isnt that bad. thought you were gunna say like hour or more. its only an extra 20 min!
i would go with # 2.

It's tough to make a choice. I see that you're not really feeling the field work anymore so #2 sounds like the better way to go for you. Let's say you take #2 and aren't thrilled...would you be able to go back to a position doing what you love?

That's just it. I haven't yet found a position that I love. I like my current job, but I certainly don't love it. I'm sure my current agency would take me back in a heartbeat, but if I pass up the promotion, it would probably be at my current position, and I don't think I'd want to do that.

Thank you girls........I'm leaning towards #2 also because I'm afraid if I pass up this opportunity I may never get it again. But I'm so afraid that 'the grass isn't always greener'......KWIM???? And of course, DH is no help. When I asked him, his response was 'well I wouldn't have gone on the interview in the first place.'

I'd say take it. I'm sure you're scared because it's the unknown. But on the other hand you'll probably regret it later on if you didn't try. Give it a shot!!!! Everything happens for a reason and this just might open up a new door for you that you didn't know about!
